Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nikkei: Nintendo ceasing Wii U production at the end of the year

Vita isn't.

Their consoles are selling better because they have better designed consoles for the biggest market with access to vastly more popular games. If Nintendo released a console of the same caliber as those two with the same level of support and exclusive third party content and marketing deals, there wouldn't be a contest of who'd be winning right now. Nintendo would be by a landslide, because they have an infinitely more valuable arsenal of exclusive IP.

Not sure if I can agree with this. A Nintendo console that somehow manages to beat the competition in terms of graphic fidelity and other technicalities, plus having exclusive third party content sounds enticing. The thing is, can they make something like that at this point? After Gamecube? After Wii? After WiiU? Would people be interested in it regardless after all these gens where the third-party games everyone wanted to play were denied of Nintendo consoles?

Sony and MS dont have them, yet their consoles are selling better...

Nintendo didnt win by a landslide during the SNES days when they had their own games and third party.

I just hope Nintendo has learnt their lesson and that they follow up with a solid console.

I don't know if Nintendo learnt the lesson but I'm positive Kimishima knows what to do...

I wonder how much input Kimishima really has on the NX. Mr. Iwata passed away less than a year ago, likely most/all of the NX hardware concept was complete by then. If there was some dramatic retool of the concept it likely would suffer a large delay.

The WiiU is a solid console. Its power has nothing to do with why companies arent putting their games on it.

It wasnt. It sold terribly, had no appeal and its hardware was simply too outdated. Power aside sticking to ancient architucture was just shortsighted and arrogant. I personally sold all but 2 of my Wii U games. Its completely useless to anyone who isnt a die-hard Nintendo fan. I cant recommend it to most people in good conscience.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Good news. I have enjoyed the Wii U to an extent, but even with the dozen or so great exclusives, it remains the weakest console of the gen for me.

NX cannot come soon enough. I wonder if production ending so soon means the NX will be BC.

They will keep promise, Pikmin 4 was never actually announced, especially like Wii U game.

The "keep promise" was to the Nintendo statement saying they would release more game on WiiU..

And actully.. Dont understand why people think its so crazy.. that nintendo could port some NX games and release (mayby only in eshop) on WiiU in the first year.?

(we know zelda u will likely be on both consoles.. is so fare away to think other games also to be avalible on WiiU.. I mean 3. part do it always when we have new consoles.. and I think some Sony/MS games also was multi console first year)

But ok.. I will shut up.. be happy.. go Nintendo :) (and offcourse bumb this tread if it happens)

And they are, Zelda TP HD and Mario Color Splash are more games.

Because Wii U is dead, they need all resources for NX to have better chance to succeed after Wii U faile, one or two more ports for Wii U will not change anything.

Zelda U is different thing, game is announced in January 2013. for Wii U.

Saying that game is bad and saying that looks interesting are very different things. Nobody can show you that game isn't or it is Sticker Star 2 because we still dont know almost anything about game.

Ah so you're in denial then. Welp I'm not gonna waste my time with one who can't see what's right in front of them.

How is that relevant?

How is it not?

Because it has nothing to do with what Spemanig said. Just because PS/XB are selling better doesnt mean that Sony/Microsoft wouldnt love to have huge 1st party IP that Nintendo has.

Well I can still play my NES, so I guess we have different views on outdated hardware...

Just for reference the N64 halted production in early 2002, GameCube in early 2007, Wii in late 2013.
