Can you make pizza without tomato sauce?

So I had this discussion with someone about wether or not you need tomatoes to make pizza (yes lol, it's true). Now, I said that you don't, because there is such a thing as "pizza bianca" (ie. "white pizza"), which is  pizza without tomato sauce. Here's a picture:

(mmmmmmm)

My friend however, simply called that "cheese on toast", and claimed that it wasn't pizza. So what do you think, VGC? Can you make pizza without tomato sauce, like in the picture above, or is that just "cheese on toast"? And just for fun, can you also make pizza without cheese?

That pizza looks really good.

Anyways, while tomato sauce is pretty much a standar ingredient, that picture alone says that you can make a great pizza without tomatoes.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

That looks delicious, now I'm hungry.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'll take that as a "You don't need tomato sauce to make pizza"

Tomatoes are needed.

I love tomatoes on pizza, but if I do pizza myself I never put any on them, since I can't seem to get the sauce to taste like it should.
So instead I use creme-fraiche which works extremely well. I usually do my favourite kind of pizza, which is Hawaii.

Creme-fraiche is common to use on pizza bianca.

Barbarbecue chicken pizza and Tai pizza's dont have tomatoes.

In order to legitimately believe a Pizza needs tomatoes you would have to ignore tons of tomato-less variations.

Not to mention, authentic definition of a Pizza is the signature dough bread, not the actual toppings. When Pizza was first created, it was just pan crust with whatever edibles could found. Pepperonni, cheese, sauce on pan crust is the Americanized version and now standard, but not how it started.

I'm pretty sure that with original pizzas, tomato sauce was just one possible option. My opinion is that a pizza is various ingredients baked on a piece of open flat bread.

You need tomatoes, that's the ingredients that makes pizza, pizza. I completely agree that pic looks delicious but it's just a glorified cheese on toast. The fact is pizza is bread tomatoe and cheese, then with your own toppings.
