Probably the home console: even if MOST NX-games run on the handheld, I doubt that ALL will run on it.

There are also many iOS games that run on iPad but not on iPhones.

I genuinely believe that the only NX games that won't run on both will be a very select few 3rd party games. I don't see a single first party Nintendo game ever running on only one form factor. Like, I see a lot of people thinking a game like Zelda U or XCX won't run on the handheld, meanwhile I'm like it obviously will. That's how they sell the concept. That's how the pitch the idea. Everything is playable on everything. That's how easy it will be to scale your game to work on both systems with the NX. I genuinely think that devs will have to actively try and get there game to not be possible on the NXDS. I look at current gen games, and I can't see a more than a handful of games that couldn't have been done uglier on last gen hardware. Only something like No Man's Sky which, when I look at Minecraft on smartphones, makes my even question if that couldn't have been done to a much less impressive degree on weaker tech.

I think the amount of NX console exclusive games will be so few that it will be negligable.

The big thing to sell it will be the UI experience. I know people will read that and scoff at the idea, "I buy consoles for the games, not for the menus," but I genuinely think that this is what Nintendo is banking on with the NX. Not just the unified platform, but a brand of "smart consoles" that put a heavy focus on having an extremely powerful and modern OS and UI for a convenience and user experience not yet seen in consoles. That's what will be cutting edge about the platform.

Yeah, like a miracle they will go from the worst UI experience in the industry to the pole position... right.

Lol, I don't think the Wii U's UI is the worst in the industry at all. And yeah, I think they are doing to be in the polar opposite position with the NX, since it will be entirely built around the firmware. And I think DeNA will be critical to that.

Not to be blunt, but I think they are going to absolutely wreck the competition (on consoles) in that regard. The UI and OS revamp for both will be night and day from what it was on the Wii U and 3DS. Miiverse too. Night and day.

I think the same too. If you're going to release two different pieces of hardware at the same time, and one plays more games than the other, you are alienating consumers from the beginning. And most Nintendo titles don't need that much power to begin with, so no problem there. Actually, even if that happens, Nintendo could just release a New Nintendo NX two or three years later solving whatever power difference exists between HH and HC. I don't know how people would take it, but there are precedents.

I thnk the 9th gen will be completely different from what we've seen in the console market. With Nintendo going with the Fusion and their mobile plans, Microsoft hinting more and more PC integration of the XBox brand, Sony focused on streaming and miniconsoles getting more and more power (soon will reach and pass WiiU power), this are really uncertain times.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

MS will be releasing the XBox One successor in 2018, I'd bank on it. 4K resolution, HBM RAM, the works.

They know they screwed the pooch with the XBox One, which currently has a better UI than the PS4 ... isn't really doing much of anything for it. The only reason this previous gen went on so long is because MS (Red Ring Disaster) and Sony ($600 disaster) lost so much money from the 360/PS3 early on that they needed those extra years in the back end to offset as much of their losses as possible. Nintendo made a stupid decision IMO not to pounce on them and let both of them off the hook by taking so long to release the market dud that is Wii U which let MS/Sony have a good 7-8 years to recuperate and get their act together. Which is exactly what Sony/MS wanted.

XB1 and PS4 are much more intelligently designed from a financial POV, neither is bleeding either company any major dollars though I'm sure Sony wouldn't mind kicking everyone's butt into 2021, MS is likely not on that same page, 5 years of this is probably going to be plenty for them.

PS4 didn't even have better marketing (MS had equal, probably even slightly more initial marketing), it got anointed the "it" system to buy by the hardcore crowd due to PR meltdowns from MS. And yes having the best multiplats does play well to Sony as between MS and Sony that audience wants to know who has the better versions of "Calladooty/Madden/GTA/etc.

What's happened in the market today is because of the mega success of online centric franchises like Call of Duty is once one platform gets "chosen" as the "one to get", it snowballs because no one wants to get stuck with the "other" console and not be able to play with their boys online. So once one guy in the group gets their PS4 ... guess which console his 8 other friends are picking up with the new COD/Destiny/NBA 2K/Madden/whatever.

That's also why MS' exclusives are not gaining them the traction they are hoping for. Yeah I can play Halo, but so what? I can't play with my buddies after work in Call of Duty. No sale Microsoft.

Nintendo's not really relevant to this dudebros/online shooter/GTA loving/jock gamer crowd though, so it's not really much to debate there from the Nintendo POV they don't even factor into that equation. That's all Sony/MS territory.

With Microsoft making Windows 10 as a platform to sell all kinds of apps, I think that the next XBox will be a Windows 10 PC with hardware specifically tailored to gaming. Microsoft will then use the XBox brand as a digital distribution platform for PC to compete against Steam. That way, not only they don't need to develope for two different OS, they suddenly gain an enourmus market (Steam amount of users surpass the 120m, Microsoft would love to have that too).

I would buy the home console first ( I've always been a console guy) and maybe the handheld if I feel like it!

Home console. Much prefer gaming on a decent sized TV screen. Handhelds are just a convenience for me and I don't enjoy gaming in busy public spaces as I can't get lost in the experience.

Also a decent gamepad >>> handheld controller.

Maybe most important of all though is local multiplayer on a console is one of the biggest reasons why I'm Nintendo fan.

I agree 100%. I think that the "next generation" of video game platforms will be do different, that I don't even think it's worth it to even consider the NX or anything after that 9th gen at all. These platforms are becoming generationless. You hit it on the nail with the New NX comment. I think that's absolutely part of their business strategy, and I think having a unified platform allows them to do that with absolute ease.

That's... Literally exactly what I've been saying for the past few months. We're of the same mind, dude.
