I would often play with the controller behind my back for a little extra challenge. Looking back, it's pretty amazing how little content most games used to have. They were also incredibly expensive so I would end up playing the few games I owned over and over. |
And I bet you enjoyed every minute of it. Now that you have more money and likely lots of games, how many have you played through more than once, or even once? I can say the same. I haven't played through quite a few games I own now... In some instances they almost seem too long lol. At times I just need a break.

I wouldn't say that, exactly. I used to beg for new games. Even the sports games of the time were all about figuring out the timing and exploiting the loop-holes. It's true I did love the NES but it wasn't until I found Final Fantasy (1) that I fell in love with an individual game, as it brought much more imagination to the table than most other titles. My number one hobby as a kid was reading science fiction and fantasy novels so I've always craved greater depth and immersion from gaming, so I'm pretty happy how things have progressed.
It's certainly true that I don't appreciate games as much now, though. Kid version of me would be shocked that I have so many games that I've never even played.
