Hey VGChartz, hope you're all doing well!

So after a few months of thinking it over, I've decided to step down from the Head Mod position. It's been a heck of a ride, and I had a blast abusing ultimate power leading the mod team to make this community the best it can be. However, my time is becoming more and more limited with school, work, family, friends, and even gaming (what a concept!). That combined with the fact that I've implemented the ideas and have done all that I set out to do... I'm ready to step down and allow for fresh and new ideas to spring forth to make VGChartz a better place.

I'll still be around to help out the mod team, but instead of being a captin I'll be swabbing the poop deck. I know that the future is bright with Veknoid_Outcast and AxumBlade at the helm, and I'll do all I can to suppor them and the rest of the team going forward.

So I just wanted to thank you guys for allowing me to help guide the mod team and the community. Your support, friendship, and participating in making VGChartz the best it can be made my role one that I enjoyed, and that's coming from a guy who was shaking in his boots when Kantor left me the keys.

But I'd like to do one more thing before I step down.

The mod team is always dedicated to seeing how we can help to improve the community. And I'd like to ask you all a question that could help us prioritize what we want to tackle going forward.

Name three (3) things about VGChartz/gamrConnect that... could use improvement/concern you/need fixing/needs mod attention.

The Site Numbers issue is already included in everyone's list.

So for me personally:

  • Improvement in the quality of discussion in gamrConnect. The quantity is there, we now need to encourage diverse game and game sales threads that drive positive, healthy discussion.
  • Greater focus on game-related discussion. Tournaments, events, group participation, etc.
  • Focus on the de-segregation of the forums. Different communities are either aggressive or defensive, and that leads these groups to not venture out and make the forums a melting pot of discussion and ideas.

So what's on your mind? Let Axum and Veknoid know!

Awww, you know the site be changing when the great smeags is stepping down. You have been a great mod smeags, I salute you

Stuff that I think would help the site would be:

1) Allow nsfw names
2) Allow more suggestive avatars/sigs + increase the sig limit to 2mb
3) (This is the Most important) Allow stickies to be visible on the front page! The Sticky threads such as the sales thread are stickied because they are very important but if they aren't visible on the front page, then people can't find them! I know that a few people didn't even know the sales updates thread existed until I pointed it out to them so yea, that would greatly help imo.

I will miss you

Proud to be a Californian.

I'm not going anywhere guys! At least I don't think so...

It's just that I'll be a regular powerless mod, able to be controlled and puppetted by our head mod overlords.

It was an honour, Smeags! I have to thank you for all the hard work that you put not only into the mod team but the community as a whole.

It's been great having you! Good luck on your studies and other things!

1) The game database realllllllly needs updating (pictures, proper names, new games added), would be great if members could help out..
2) The site needs less shortages and downtimes like what happened earlier
3) Like with 1, feel that things like badges and such should be up to date while others removed (some aren't used anymore)

Congratulations on your freedom.

As for improvements, while I agree with your points, I think it will be difficult to implement changes that would have the desired outcome. You can encourage people to improve content and be less hostile to those wirh differing opinions, but those changes, if they are to be successful, have to be led by the community, and I am not convinced it will be possible.

The only improvement I can think of right now is having a minimum standard for certain threads, like review threads.

Congrats on a job well done. To be honest your three points are exactly what I wanted to say so Im copying and pasting here:

Greater focus on game-related discussion. Tournaments, events, group participation, etc.

Forum culture is definitely something that's dependant on a variety of things, especially the community that is part of the forums. But a little elbow grease and implementations can help to change that culture, even if it's little by little.

But yeah, never an easy task. But by shining light on some aspects we can at least see it for what it is... and hopefully do something about it!

@Kljesta

I'll see what Axum and Vek can do about that. *nods in approval*
