Anything is possible until we officially see it, but don't claim that "nothing" implies home console.

Since the only public announcement they've made about any upcoming system is the NX announcement, that definitely suggests it is a home console. Unless you can find some other public announcement they've made that fits this statement?
It could be both a home console and a handheld though.
There's also the Metroid producer saying that the next home console Metroid would be for the NX.

OT: Since Dragon Quest XI is supposed to come out in 2016, that makes it look more probable that NX might be coming out then as well.

The fact that Nintendo said NX is a home console and they'll talk about it (= release it) in 2016 but gamers still don't want to listen should be a warning sign that the "gaming community" is indeed living in a parallel universe.

 

Offcourse they are hard working on next home console, Nintendo always start working on new next console right after launch, but Reggies statement does not mean that NX is a home console.

Nobody from Nintendo still did not confirmed what exatly is NX, only it's confirmed that is a hardware.

Really the Dragon Quest announcement means nothing about the release date. Dragon quest X was announced in 2008 and it wasn't released until 2012 so that was a four year span between announcement to release. DQXI had a three year period from its official announcement to release. DQXI will not be releasing until about 2018-to-2019 at the earliest. Remember this is Square Enix, the ones who announced Kingdom hearts 3 over two years ago.

We don't knwo anything. NX still could be plausibly a 3DS-successor. In my book a fusion-device is still more likely than a home console with no successor for the 3DS.

If it's not a successor then why isn't DQXI for WiiU?

Same reason why it isn't for Vita: sales.

We haven't even hit 3 full years on the market. You never usually get games announced this early. It's been just over 2-1/2 years...

 

If NX releases before/during November 2012 it will be 4 years or less on the market. That is not normal.

Holidays 2016 or early 2017 would be pretty normal console cycle for a successor of the 3DS though. And all the people claiming that NX is the successor to the WiiU still don't tell me where the hell the successor to the 3DS hides.

Both. Iwata mentioned they are hardwaroking on NX to not be a simple replace to both Wii U and 3DS.

DQXI tentative release date is 2016.
