Castlevania goes from a handheld pixel-art series to a full fledged AAA hack 'n slash with Patrick Stewart as a voice actor under Kojima.

...

What?

...Kojima is the one who bastardized Castlevania!?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhgh.

Look, I'm a new found Kojima fan - loved Snake Eater - but if that is the kind of change we should have expected from Silent Hills, no thanks. Not after the abomination that is the LoS games.

Co-developed by Kojima Studios and Kojima acted as an advisor and producer.

In fact, the game wasn't going to be part of the Castlevania world (Konami thought it was too radical) until Kojima stepped in.

...So this is Konami's Dinosaur Planet, then. Ugh. Kojima, why?

Obviously not enough. I'm not being sarcastic, either. Obviously not enough to be worth keeping. Obviously, to Konami, he isn't worth all the lost money from months or years of "needless" delays and overspending that only effects them and doesn't effect him.

Every MGS game he has made has been financially successful. Who's to say the delays were needless? Konami don't seem to give much of a shit about console games anymore and to them maybe a "needless" delay is actually what it takes to make the game good. Millions of people buy these games because they are amazing, and that takes a lot of time, money and effort to create and I think that Konami just aren't interested in this business anymore because it's very risky. Why fund an expensive console game that may not sell well and not make any profit when you can make 50 piece of crap mobile games that probably will? However if MGS V doesn't make a nice profit I will be very suprised.

#boycottkonami because they don't believe we deserve quality.

I would also like to point out that this blows the final hole in the hull of the "buy it anyway" team, because Kojima won't get paid anyway. He's already been paid.

That would actually be understandable. Konami isn't Activision or EA, they don't have infinite pockets. I wouldn't blame them for parting ways with Kojima. Let him go somewhere else that can afford to have a rockstar developer on staff, or better yet, let him open his own studio.

The part that is difficult to understand is how they've handled the whole thing.

No its not. When you consider Kojima seemed to not give a damn about the Mile stones and delays, its easy to see Konami getting fed up. Kojima makes the same regardlesss; Konami doesnt.

What is that "no it's not" supposed to be in reference to?

A few days ago, after watching how detailed MGS V was shaping up to be and some introspection, I assumed this was the reason why they let him go. I mean, it's no secret that a game like MGS V was going to run with a tight budget. That and their new focus on cheap and profitable mobile games. All signs led to the spending of a lot of money to get the game right.

For now, I'll reserve myself of saying Kojima is this or that. He's way too eccentric, that's for sure. And yes, can't blame Konami for turning in profit. They are a company, after all. But we will see if with the game release the means justified the ends.

Does anyone really believe this?

They let him run wild for years. They had plenty of times to restrain his budget. They have had years to deal with this problem.

They went as far as erasing his name from everything.

This is not how you handle the situation described. That is nothing more than a obvious cop-out.

Looking at it from that lens, Kojima was being a dick .. Sort of.

Eh, not really. He was just being a perfectionist, and apparently an extremely wasteful one at that. I mean, paying for several dozen songs you'll never use does not speak well of his efficiency. I can understand Konami's decision, assuming they took steps to try to reign him in first. But it seems like Kojima's fans really liked what he was selling.
