you heard me. The three websites I just listed are absolutely fantastic. The first two are the primary reasons that Pokémon is my number one favorite game franchise. But that comes at a cost. The whole reason I would go to websites like Serebii and Bulbapedia was because the resources are given to you by the games were not sufficient. Pokedex's, from the functionality point of view, are all terrible in every game. Even the official pokedex app fail by comparison.
In a perfect world, the entire Pokedex would be unlocked the moment you get it. So much of the fun in Pokémon comes from looking up and learning about all of the different species. That just can't happen if you don't even know what it is until after you capture it. The other thing is that the entries in the games aren't even remotely in depth enough. Some of these Pokémon have such interesting backgrounds to them that have been flushed out extensively over the years through the context of the games, but none of that is reflected in a 2 to 3 sentence blurb. But it is reflected in the entries of Bulbapedia.
Another thing these websites do better than the Pokémon games are be displaying of Pokémon competitive bad link information. Stats.it's sort of ridiculous how, even after seven generations, there is still no definitive numerical way to you IVs in a Pokémon game. And there's not a reliable enough way to check all the potential moves a Pokémon can have and how to get them. A reliable way to "build a Pokémon" so you can preplan how you want one of your Pokémon to end up not having to look through external resources. No moveset calculator either. These have come to be basic features to anyone who takes Pokémon seriously, yet for all of them, you have to look elsewhere then your Pokémon game.
And then there's Showdown, a website that you have no functional reason for existing. Show down exists because building your own Pokémon in game that is legit is much too tedious; much too laborious. Now I will always be on the side the thinks that IVs and BPs should stay in Pokémon. They keep Pokémon statistically individual. But the process of say, raising a Pokémon's BP is frankly stupid. Even with the new stat training.
In an ideal world, boosting BP (Or as the fans still call it "EV") would be like choosing stats in literally every other JRPG. Level up, and choose the stats you want to boost. The end. No tedious mini games. Just simple stat distribution.
And this is stuff that should be in just the regular handheld games. This isn't even one of my "Pokémon should be on consuls" threads. Do you agree, or do you agree?
