Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Miyamoto: games nowadays look so realistic that they all look the same

Well, I tend to like more varied styles in games, like cartoon, anime, animal, etc, so I'd agree with him here. Realism I don't find to be very interesting and they tend to start to blur together.

I agree with him. Todays gaming has lost a lot of its innovation in its games. Probably explains why we are getting remasters more often because Devs today are running out of ideas. I don't own a Nintendo Wii or Wii U but it seems there the only ones trying to keep the industry alive. People will get bored of graphics but a game designed with great gameplay elements never gets boring.

Yeah, I hate when different games all look the same.

Maybe he should make a realistic game and show us how it should be done then.

Until then he should worry about his own obvious issues.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Doesn't mean anything when your newest game looks bad, Miyamoto.

Have you seen Star Fox? ... That's actually art style.

Ex Graphics Whore.

Well, he is obviously defending his inability to create a realistic game. Of course, nobody expects that of him, since he is a cartoonist. He should stick to what he knows, because he is not able to adapt to the 21st century gaming.

There is a difference though between realistics art style and pushing technology. Kingdom Hearts 3 and the new Ratchet and Clank aren't realistic art styles but they are still on the cutting edge of graphics.

That's what people fail to realise. FF XV is the best example of that. Things aren't always black and white.

I some what agree with him, but unlike people here who seem to pick one side of either bashing nintendo for being cartoony or bashing everything else for same. I think we need both, we need realism and we need cartoony, also I think people need to stop asking Nintendo to do realism.

I'm happy with how it looks, I think people are exaggerating, graphics are not that bad. Obviously they are not great, but, the game is not too painful to see. But I'm thinking how people reacted when we first saw Super Mario 3D World, and look how it turned out. It needs some polish, but I like the art style and the cartoonish feeling of the game.

Nobody was complaining that SM3DW had ugly graphics. They were complaining that it looked like a boring retread of a 3DS game. Even I thought it was a 3DS game when I first saw it because it looked like SM3DL.
