Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony needs their own Amiibos, this is why

and? There are several amiibos that have little brand appeal, but that doesn't stop fans from collecting all of the line.

The key aspect to remember is that there has to be something to pull the initial weight. The less known figurines from the various amiibo waves benefited from the brand power of the most popular IPs, plus the appeal of the Super Smash Bros. series itself. So the argument will inevitably lead back to PSABR and that doesn't make a good case for Sony.

We all know why amiibos sell well its because nintendo made a hyp for them by limiting the production, sony can do the same

There aren't many opinions on it, but apparently most people are against it rather than for it, Sony and Xbox fans.

The way you represented it wasnt gonna work because you pulled out natan drake instead of kids friendly ips. Also its mostly nintendo people who voted no there

Umm no that sounds like an awful idea. This whole NFC thing is going to come crashing down just like the music genre and fitness genre. It's only a matter of time with so many companies joining in, the market is going to get saturated. You've already got Activision, Disney, and Nintendo in the market. Now Warner Bros is joining in with fucking LEGOS which are going to destroy anything Disney or Nintendo puts out because of how damn popular those things are with kids.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

The thread talks about NFC as a whole, from Skylanders to Infinity and then to Amiibo. The topic was about Sony or MS making their own figures to try their own open world game, or unlockable content. Nathen Drake was one example I used for a poll. People could have made other suggestions. I didn`t limit it to one character or anything.

Also, amiibo sell well because people want their favorite characters and the figurines look cool. I don`t think Nintendo hyping the figures is the only reason they sell so well...

I don't know how to say this nicely. Sony shouldn't do this because it would end badly for them. It would feel like another me too move and most gamers wouldn't buy it. Besides it wouldn't get the kids attention because their IPs don't have the appeal that the others do.

Well, for starters, Sony would immediately get crucified for "ripping off Nintendo", even though this figure gimmick has kind of been a thing long before the Amiibo's were even announced. For another, it's a gimmick. Most people only buy them for the sake of collecting them because Nintendo is apparently terrible at meeting demand. Sony would be better off just making action figures, or something. Plus, what games could they really apply to, besides a potential PSASBR sequel? I wouldn't mind a sequel to that, but frankly, little Amiibo like figures are one of the last things I'd care to see as an add-on.

Well they could always make proper action figures, Revoltech seems pretty popular as a figure series in Japan, I even own a set of Evangelion Rebuild series Eva's on my shelf and are damn good quality with godlike posability, Sony could go for that route in which they could both be used for games but offer more for teens and maybe kids to pose them in, Ammibos are only really used for games and looking good but you can't really do much with them in terms of posing/toying with.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

I guess. I still have yet to open my Lucario Amiibo, mostly because he's still extremely hard to find, but also because I don't really see the purpose behind them.

0331 Happiness is a belt-fed weapon

In order for Sony to have any sort of success, they'd need to actually use their IP. Unfortunately, while Sony is sitting on a mountain of IP but doesn't really do anything with it.

Sony doesn't have that many well known franchises outside of God of War, GT (last gt didn't sell that well if memory serves me correctly) and uncharted. So not amiibos won't work that well for Sony.

No.
