Forums - Gaming Discussion - Ready At Dawn didn't make any mistakes with The Order

With which I mean that the game is exactly how they envisioned it.

I'm seeing people mentioning how RAD can now learn from their mistakes. The problem is they didn't make any with their game. Their biggest mistake was not pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Maybe they're not as talented when it comes to actual game design, but I honestly believe that The Order is a game they wholeheartedly embrace and came out exactly how they wanted and that they're really proud of the result.

The fact that it's not up to snuff for a lot of people or maybe too short and not innovative enough or too expensive doesn't really matter. I mean there are a lot of niche titles and genres that generally get bad ratings because they're not the next TLOU. Yes, I'm looking at you Dynasty Warriors.

I'm not saying The Order is a good game or should only be rated by the standard it set itself. I'm saying that the game is exactly what was envisioned and advertised. So there is no real need to defend or attack RAD or the reviewers. They all did their Job and this is the (expected) outcome.

Actually we should ask ourselves: When was the last time a game actually delivered on what it promised to be?

Feel free to point me to interviews where they promised something they didn't deliver. I might take back what I said then.

they made the mistake of going the cinematic route that they did

Was the dig at Dynasty Warriors really necessary?

Actually that was a compliment. As an example of a specific type of game that doesn't match western standards of gameplay and is as such constantly rated very low despite having a very dedicated niche audience that actually embraces the type of gameplay.

How is it a mistake if they wanted to go that route?

Or are you talking mistake in a business sense?

It's a mistake if it proves costly to them and so far by just reviewer and perception wise, its proven a mistake

Sales wise, remains to be seen. The first release week should be strong, but after that, word of mouth is going to play a big part in this games success. If it tapers off after its initial week and sales get hit because of the word of mouth about the game. Then even sales wise it will be proven to be a mistake if it comes to that.

Anyone can have something that they invision or pick a route they want to go in,but that doesnt mean its NOT mistake to go with that vision or path/route.

RAD also deserves some extra credit for releasing a game that actually works. Isn't the norm these days.

Saying that is like saying no one makes a mistake when they release a game. The game is short, has no replay value, and is more about presentation than gameplay. Those sound like big mistakes to me.

lol nobody cares about reviews other than the people on these forums

I'm wouldn't be to surprised if The Order ends up selling really well. Especially the more casual players are going to see how amazing it lloks and pick it up. Games like COD don't sell all those copies to critical gamers you know.

Only thing standing in the way of succes is that The Order doesn't have multiplayer and is on the short side, so people might sell or lend it to friends faster costing retail sales.

Not true.  I've been goign to IGN/Kotaku/Gamespot and a few other websites and people are seeing the review scores and passing on the game.

Same with  people on facebook groups I'm in. Most of them are passing up on the game and are waiting for a $30 price drop before getting it due to the review scores.
