Your post is confusing....if they have been getting critizied from the begnining(or early as you stated) then why would they think that hte game being ps4 exclusive would espace harsh critics and vocal fans? So they thought they game would espace what it was already getting?

I'll break it down.

1. The early criticisms were regarding gameplay, but imo R@D thought by continually improving graphics it would ease the gameplay concerns.

2. Despite plenty of oppotunities for criticsm ps4 developers haven't been criticized. even the indie devs. Merely being associated with Xb1 has warranted a public outcry, but not even close for being on the ps4/sony team. This is the first for someone on team ps4 and by that I mean criticism of this magnitude.

Okay gotcha. So now the question is has anyone been actually complaining about the gameplay like they were skeptical about early on? The issue early on was that people had not really seen gameplay. So are they saying  the gameplay is bad? Because if not then I still don't get the issue and or even why your brought up graphics. I am asking because I am still trying to find what the issue is people are having with this game.

And as for the second point forget about being a PS4 developer what game has REALLY received the critisim this game has had from start to finish whether it be a PS4/XB1/Wii U game? I can't think of a single one. Now there have been people vocal about games in the past(infmaous, KZ, Titanfall, Sunset overdrive etc) but the negative critisim this game has received through and through is crazy imo.

Well lets see. Early gameplay impressions of this game were extremely negative so the game starts getting hate.

Later impressions of this game are negative as well so the game continues to get hate.

People actually start playing the final product and a lot of people don't like what they see when they watch those gameplay videos so the game gets more hate.

Regardless people are really overexaggerating the hate this game is getting. Evolve, Assassin's Creed Unity, Destiny, etc. got as much if not more hate than this game. It's just that they are multiplatform so fanboys don't really care that those games get torn to shreds.

Fortunatly for The Order 1886, it is an exclusive and exclusives for any platform will often be defended regardless of mediocritiy. (Example Ryse for the XB1, Knack for the PS4). I can't even imagine the backlash this game would have had it been a multiplatform so fanboys would have no reason to defend it.

I'm not trying to say that people can't enjoy this type of experience but a lot of gamers are getting frustrated that this is what triple A games have been turning into so obviously they will try and create a big backlash whenever stuff like this comes out.

But a 7 hour singleplayer only game with 3 hours worth of cutscenes and qte? No surprise this game gets hate.

That sounds like the first uncharted.

First uncharted wasn't even that great. People are retroactively making that game out to be amazing after uncharted 2. It was good but not great.

Also worth noting. There is a way to do qte's that is not bad (Uncharted games, God of War) where it actually enriches the gameplay and there is a bad way to do qte's (Resident Evil 5) where it is used as a crutch and just feels awkward and out of place. This game looks like it is the latter.

I've been saying for a while that all the overhyping by other companies would eventually lead to backdraft. The Order 1886 is catching the brunt but then we'll see in a very short while if it deserved it.

So we've established that any game:

Under 10 hours
Can be finished in 5 hours if you skip stuff
Has QTEs
Has Borders
Is Story driven
Has lots of cut scenes
Is linear in design

Must be constantly critiqued on everything until launch.

Noted.

Man, just take away the borders and the linearity (although it really does just end up the same in the end) and you have the critically and commercially loved 'The Walking Dead" by Telltale games.

Another terrible comparison. Walking Dead is not a third person shooter. If RAD wanted this to be a telltale style game then they should have just made that from the start. Plust the fact that walking dead has choice is basically the entire gameplay hook of that "game" so you can't just ignore that.

The part in bold I think is the biggest issue with the lead up to launch. By that I mean that the impressions from people WATCHING the game don't match up with the impressions of the people PLAYING the game. The general consensus from people who have played the game thus far is pretty much "good game, not great, but good". The impression from people who watched a walkthrough on YT is "terrible game".

Watching a game on YT is NOT the same as playing a game.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Yep Walking Dead at least has some replay value thanks to multiple breaching paths due to choices in the game. Plus, it's $20-30 max depending on where you buy. Not $60. Price is a huge factor in the Order negativity imho.

Reviews released tomorrow, base on much I seen, looks interesting. I'm going to bite the bullet and buy this for the experience.

No seriously what other game has gotten as much attetion as this that has released recently because NONE of the games you mentioned got anywhere near as much attention as The Order has been getting, Seriously.....It is not a matter of "defending" for me it is a matter of what is the issue that people have because no one is really being clear. Like I stated early impressions were(from what I remember) about not showing gameplay. Which was the same with later impressions that not enough actualy gameplay was shown.

I haven't even heard anyone really say the gameplay was "bad" all I hear is that there are too many QTEs(whichs ome people hate and  others enjoy me being the latter) and that the game CAN be beaten in about 5 hours or under but can average from like 5-10hrs to beat which is fine for a single player game. And to be honest it should not be penalized for it. If it has smooth gameplay, a solid story and some good characters then that length fits fine. If someone wants "more" than just that then they don't need to get the game. it just seems that gamers now a day have changed and if a game doesn't have some type of robust mulitplayer it is docked or gets a lot of flack. I personally miss these types of games. I don't know I just think people are giving the game too much hate and 99% of the people doing it have not even tried the game yet. I will say it will be a hit and miss game. Some will love it and others will hate it and there is nothing wrong with that.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

Can't quote and cut since I'm on mobile, but I am fully aware that The Walking Dead is not a TPS, I own and have completed the game. However, even with the choices the game for all intent and purposes the game ends the same.

Only played season one so not sure if that was change in season 2.

Either way my post was mainly just running with his bullet points and if it really came to it I am sure we can find games that fit many of The Orders cons and find well received titles.

Heck, even the one review I've seen doesn't even make the game seem as bad as many are trying to portray. They say the gameplay is good, story is good, atmosphere is good but it has a few too many QTE and length is short, which may be bad or good depending on the gamer. I've never had issue with 8 hour long games.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Has lots of QTEs
Has Borders

Has lots of cut scenes totaling almost half of the length of the game
Is linear in design
Somehow still costs $60 at launch

Must be constantly critiqued on everything until launch.

Noted.

I fixed some of that for you, and added another. You really hit the nail on the head in terms of the problems with The Order. You might be able to try really hard and find 2-3 games that fit this entire list, maybe. But you won't find many at all. Hell, I cannot think of a single one. And that's why The Order gets so much hate. It's not just "omg its so short!" it's that it's so short, it's extremely linear, its loaded with so many cut scenes that almost half the time you're "playing" you're actually just watching, an enormous part of the game is tied to QTE's, there's little to no replay value, AND it's going to launch at $60.

Another reason the flames are burning so strong is because it's a PS exclusive, and a highly hyped/anticipated one, so you have a slew of people arguing and defending the game. Which just means more replies and more discussion.

There's nothing uncanny about it. Other games like Titanfall, Evolve, hell even Ryse were subjected to the same hate. And it's not because of the Sony brand, either. Uncharted and LoU might have had a small amount of hate prior to launch but it's overwhelmingly positive. And Bloodborne can do no wrong right now. Maybe this game is just getting hate because it deserves it? A lot of people don't like the idea of a 5-6 hour game where 35-40% of it are cut scenes, and the only real replay value is replaying the game to hunt trinkets. And it's $60.

Most popular walkthrough on YT for Wolfenstein The New Order is 7 hours and 15 minutes long. Howlongtobeat has that game with a 13 hour average play time. Oh, and that game has 2 hours and 47 minutes of cutscenes. Oh the horror! 38% of Wolfenstein is cutscenes! Kill it with fire!
