Actually this is a really good idea. We can get rid of eyewitness accounts and get better evidence for court cases, cops also woudn't have to worry about testifying and the like cause they just have to submit there tapes.

That being said, its obviously not gonna pass, because congress, although there is zero legal reason for this not to pass and the benefits far exceed the costs.

In regards to it not passing, it's an executive order so it could get opposed but no real vote is need to put it in effect.

OH... I missed that...

If its an Executive Order than only the supreme court can stop it if its unconstitutional right?

That wouldn't make sense because its akin to the patriot act except less detrimental for the citizens, sure Police lose privacy, but Police are public officers who shouldn't have privacy in the first place.

Also, I'd invest in the company making the cameras

No, you were correct initially, several of his proposals are doable via executive action, however, the $263 million in funding has to be approved by Congress, specifically, the House (which handles...or, in the case of this House, doesn't handle, the budget).

"Obama plans to issue an executive order before the end of February 2015, directing federal agencies to improve the way in which local law enforcement agencies procure, audit and manage a giant stockpile loaned and purchased from the Pentagon. However, the White House said the programs would remain in place."

"Obama is also separately calling for a $263m, three-year spending package to reform police departments across the country which, if approved by Congress, could lead to the purchase of an additional 50,000 lapel-mounted cameras to record police officers on the job."

new world order is right around the corner..soon we wont be able to spit anymore.

The only way it passes, is if a significant majority of Congress has stock in the companies that make the cameras.  Otherwise, all they care about is solidifying their own power, or increasing it.  Any increase in budget, will be met harshly by fiscal conservatives, which means the non-tea party GoP, would have to cross the aisle to get it done...and we all know how averse both sides of Congress are to bipartisan action.

so he needs to sign something to give the police more money for cameras? how bout they just stop arresting people for a damn plant, they would be able to afford a private paparazzi for each officer

Patriot Act is a lot worse than this. Citizens should have privacy.

Police are public servants however, they should only have privacy to the point that it allows them to do their jobs, protect people, keep the peace etc. Not only that but Police Cam adds a layer of protection to them and the people they protect.

Reclassification of Marijuana from a schedule 1 narcotic requires Congressional action, cannot be done by the President.  Unfortunately, doing so would be a direct threat to the profits of big business, namely, privatized prisons, big pharma, cotton, synthetic fiber and the paper industry.  And again, he can't provide funding with executive action, the budget is handled by the House of Representatives.

So sick of the police state we've become.
