I agree and im gonna say it now i will NOT be surprised if the PS4 manages to surpass the PS2 sales.

now i admit its HARD to tell what the possibilities of this are, because we dont know what the size of the actual market is, has there been a shrinkage on the gaming market?, its hard to tell because last gens numbers were inflated due to Wii numbers (you know those fathers and grandpas who bought a Wii for the novelty of motion controls) and then theres the people who bought up to 3 or 4 Xbox 360s due to the RROD.

But with all that said i think this gen in 3 or 4 years we will be able to tell if the market has actually been reduced.

PS share of the market is not reducing at all

But this gen will not reach last gen numbers with a good probability.

It will problably go back to 6th gen numbers with around 200M consoles sold, what is great to be honest.

I don't know why, but I really think next gen will be the one to explode with insane numbers.

It's really too soon to say even about this gen

who knows, maybe this gen will explode with huge numbers thanks to this two:

I have 120M fixed in my head because PS2 had legs nowhere to the seem again, and I doubt PS4 or any other system will have that much success PS2 had even with a new gen going for years already.

So to PS4 to reach or beat the PS2, this gen would need to be as long as last gen (what I find hard to happen) or have legs as long as the PS2 or at least close to it (what as I've just said, I find hard to happen too).

So 120M would be a great number to PS4 to reach but I sure would love to see it surpass my expectations xD, and as people go saying stuff like consoles are dying and there will be no new gen after this and stuff, I expect PS5 to be an even greater success to Sony than what PS4 will be, with the numbers finally being able to surpass the PS2.

PS4 looks more like the PS1 to me, with a great success and amazing numbers compared with the competiton, than the PS5 could have chance to be the PS2 to this PS1, with an even greater domination of the market and gigantic numbers that amaze everyone, with maybe not that much legs, but with solid gigantic numbers every year. And I'm sure Sony would appreciate it

Man I love the way u think! and just like u I already can't wait for the PS5 and the success that console will be :)

Add me if u want :)

And I was just stating my approval of that! No need to jump to conclusions! Trolololol

I had a feeling that you were being sarcastic with that post...

Funny how none of you can factor in gaming growth world wide, west can cry about their economy being weak but world wide things are rapidly improving in many places. What you think they don't want to play games ??

PS4 price at 400 at release is much more cheaper then PS3 500/600 was back then if you adjust. Euro growth should be easy nuf to see for all. Wth PS4 price and possible quick cuts Europe will likely overtake US as biggest market.

Guess what PS4 will hit 199 way sooner then PS3 did, and it will actually hit 99. Think about what that means in all those pro sony PS world wide markets.

Everyone is wrong. For PS4 to get to 100+ million, it's probably gonna need 8 years or so. There are just too many things that can happen in the next 7 years. I doubt Steam machines will do much of a dent in the market.

But we don't know if there will be new hardcore video game consoles coming out in the next 7 years. Amazon bought Twitch. So what if Amazon puts out a hardcore video consoles at the same price with PS4 but with much better hardware. In 2015 or 2016, GPU/CPU should be better/cheaper, so a 2016 video console can have the same price with PS4 but be able to blow PS4 away from a hardware standpoint. How about Apple or Samsung joining the core video game market.

Playstation would destroy Apple,Samsung and Amazon consoles

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

PS will destroy those consoles.  That's not my point.  The title of the thread is asking whether PS4 can get to 100 million.  PS will likely still sell the most but those potential new consoles will dent away PS console sales.

People will still buy ps instead of Samsung,Apple and amazon consoles

Those consoles would just fail like  the Apple Bandai Pippin

I don't think those will be near ready anytime during this console life cycle.

People compare the PS4 to the Wii because they've been the consoles with the strongest launch periods out of each generation, and the PS4 is selling less than the Wii did.

I highly doubt the PS4 will crack 100 million unless this generation stretches on for 8-9 years. It's had a strong start, but when you compare all of the current-gen consoles to their last-gen predecessors at the same point in time, people aren't buying into this generation anywhere near as quickly as they did the last.

I did these calculations on another site about a month ago, though they're still fairly current:

PS4: 10m vs. PS3: 5m
One: 5m vs. 360: 5.5m
Wii U: 7m vs. Wii: 32m
Vita: 9m vs. PSP: 29m
3DS: 44.5-45m vs. DS: 55-60m

The PS4 is the only console tracking ahead of its direct predecessor right now. The XO and 3DS are tracking slightly behind, and the Wii U and Vita are tracking way behind. When you add everything together, it suggests people are either content with the consoles they bought last gen, or they've moved on to other devices like iPad, smart phones and even PC. The PS4 has also been riding a wave of insanely positive press whereas the PS3's reception was mostly mixed until a couple of years in; I suspect in a couple of years time, the PS4 won't be tracking so far ahead.

I think it's definitely possible that the PS4 will still go on to be this generation's best selling console (after the 3DS, anyway), but if so, I'd expect it to hit between 60-80 million. I don't think any console is likely to get much higher than that in this generation.

Wii sold even faster then ps2 and in the end ps2 still 50 millions ahead of wii so you're argument is not valid.

Both vita and wii u had a lot worse support then psp and wii that's why there's doing horrible and x1 is doing less then x360 because a lot of x360 owner bought a ps4 instead

For us to have another generation like the sixth (where PS2 basically carried that whole generation), we'd need a console that really tapped into some kind of essential selling point that was comparable to the PS2's DVD player (which was a HUGE deal back when the console came out). There's nothing like that in this generation, as indicated by the fact that there's not really a breakaway success, sales-wise, this generation. The 3DS has a considerable lead but its week-to-week sales are about even with PS4 now.

Couple that with my point in my previous post (this generation as a whole is not moving consoles anywhere NEAR as fast as last gen), and I doubt we'll see any console come close to 100m this generation. Not unless one console starts running ahead like crazy, at the expense of the other four. I don't see that happening.
