Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How does Nintendo convince its fans to buy 3rd party games?

So in one of my earlier threads I theorized that Nintendo's main problem with 3rd party support is that their core fanbase only buys Nintendo exclusives. Which is precisely why publishers avoid the WiiU and Nintendo consoles in general. In a way Nintendo's own fans are their worst enemy. So how does Nintendo fix this? How do they get the people who only care about Mario, Zelda etc. to start buying games like Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed. Should they release less exclusives? Get advertising and DLC deals like Sony and MS do. Go all out and purchase a major 3rd party game like Microsoft did with Tomb Raider? Imagine if the next Mass Effect or Fallout was a WiiU exclusive?

And keep in mind I'm not attacking Nintendo fans here, I'm just stating that it's a major problem for the company if their core audience only cares about Nintendo exclusives. Nintendo needs to find a way to condition their fans to start buying other types of games.

Thoughts?

By diversifying their own 1st/2nd party output.

If say .... Halo was a Nintendo in-house IP, I'd venture a bet that things like COD/Battlefield would probably sell better on their platforms.

Nintendo is the only big publisher that doesn't have a AAA blockbuster IP aimed specifically at older players. Konami has Metal Gear, Activision had Call of Duty, Ubi Soft has Assassin's Creed, Square-Enix has Final Fantasy/Tomb Raider, EA has Madden/Battlefield/FIFA, Take 2 has Grand Theft Auto, etc.

The closest thing Nintendo has is Metroid, and Metroid simply isn't a big seller (really has not been for 20 years now).

The reason third parties still keep bringing out things like LEGO, Sonic, Just Dance, Skylanders is because the overwhelming majority of Nintendo's own content is cartoony/mascot based titles or party games.

Honestly they have pay the 3rd party games to get on the system. There's no other way. In till Nintendo users see the 3rd party games come out at the SAME TIME, nerfed in no way (besides graphics), and the online functions are close to 100%, the other system do it. That is what it would take to convert people to buy them again. Nintendo has to accept certain things they do is wrong.

First Nintendo should tell/pay 3rd party developers to put their games on their console and then they should have Nintendo Direct solely about 3rd party games and tell Nintendo gamers they should buy them.

They don't. Nintendo fans will always buy Nintendo. Instead they need to get some people that already like 3rd party games, they could do that by competing directly with PS and Xbox in power and services and everything else. They need to first get 3rd party titles that run just as good on their own console and then show them off, a lot. They also need stuff like XBL Gold/PS+, achievements/trophies, plenty of entertainment apps like Netflix and stuff like that and they should be available from launch and easy to install and use.

Getting 3rd party games on the platform isn't the problem. Nintendo had quite a bit of support when the WiiU launched. It's getting their fans to buy the games.

I like that idea. Using their Nintendo Directs to advertise 3rd party games and multiplats is definitely a step in the right direction.

Personally, I only buy 3rd parties that I care about! For example, I cared about Legends so I bought it! I also cared about Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and guess what! You won't guess what I did: Yes, I bought it!

Almost all the launch games were nerf in some compacity. If a fan has one complaint, they forgo Nintendo. The system itself has two nerfing issues that will make people skip it. Graphics not on par with the other systems. And Nintendo's bad online system. Games like COD will always do worse on a Nintendo system because anyone who has played the past games on Sony or MS expect easy use of online with friends. Nintendo is far from convenient use.

Well... the main reason that I keep on hearing as to why third party doesn't develop games on wiiu seems to be cause a) its not powerful b) its not x86 and since its not those two plus its selling like shit = they dont want to. So maybe make the next one x86 if they want to please the developers cause making a franchise like mass effect exclusive (and not timed exclusive) is a risk that may not work out

And personally speaking... I still wouldn't buy third party on Nintendo platform or any console platform if its available on pc
