Lowest Playstation hardware shipments year since 2000.

18.7m total.

That is just ahead of 2000 which was 18.5m. Next lowest was 1996 at 9.2m

So the second lowest in the last 17 years. Should rise slightly this year.

Well the PS4 can't pick up the slack all on its own. I think we can forget to see another year of 30m+ PS hardware shipments for a long time, if not ever (more likely ever, actually).

Kinda, I still rather believe that PS3 shipments are down like crazy, this site overtracking the PS4, at least by a significant amount, up to march seems unlikely to me.

We'll find out at E3.

Why? What would they tell us at E3? I don't think they'll talk PS3 numbers and PS4 numbers we already have past the point of this quarter.

I've just got a feeling they will, that's all.

The PS5 Exists.

I think after this year (ending March 2015) you can forget ever seeing over 20m again.

We might get another 20m year depending on how well the PS4 picks up, though it's not likely with how slow the japanese market has become. Anyway, they can ship sub 20m from now on for all I care, but they should focus on getting the division in a position where it's finally making some good cash, the amount of income that division creates in comparison to its sales is just way too low imo. You got a potential cash cow in the PS4, use it Sony.

They really havent... why do people keep saying this?  Playstation has never been a cash cow... its made some decent profit from titm eto time, but it was never a cash cow.

By the way, looks like they are doing what I have been saying for a while now and spinning off mobile phones in the same way they are spinning off TV's.

Look at those expectations though?  They expect to sell 30% more mobile phones and 20% more TV's in the next 12 months! really?  Not happening.

Perhaps it's still early for me in the morning. But somehow I read all your posts like your hating on Sony/Playstation. Sorry, it's still early perhaps I'm wrong :/

Once you entered you won't be the same anymore. A blog about life.

I wonder what besides PS4 they are losing money on. With a tie ratio of 2-3 I would have thought it would cover the PS4 losses.

Never would have thought MS would make the most profitable next gen console lol.

They're seriously expecting another loss for next year? Ugh. How long will this restructuring take?

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

they stil expected 42m phones sold at the last update in October. They missed... 39m. The analysts wont like that.

and now they expect 50m this year?! no chance.

They need to forget this phone push.

Some very optimistic expectations in the numbers for this FY in most segments.

I agree.. Selling an extra 11 million is expecting waaay too much.. The competition in mobile is way too hard to achieve that.. With high end smartphones pretty locked up by Apple/samsung and the extremly competitive mid and low tier market because of the Chinese manufactors Sony would be lucky to achieve 39 million again

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

Is Sony the official sponsor of the FIFA world cup if it comes to mobile phones and TVs? I think that could be why they excpect a part of the rise but no clue if they are.

Don't know, it really depends on how they deal with the thing.

Making PS+ mandatory was the first necessary evil on the way to getting a real cash cow.

Then making sure the hardware stays profitable  even after pricecuts.

And they need to, and I know people hate this, get their really big franchises on a regular schedule, I love playstation for taking more risks with weirder projects, but for every time they let David Cage hire hollywood actors to make his weird ghostdramas, they also need a TLOU.

If they do this, combined with the rise in digital sales which cuts out the middleman and gives them more money per game sold, they could (!) make the PS4 a cash cow.

Also, yeah their TV projections are probably too optimistic, no idea about phones.

Some interesting little bits as you read.

Zero shipments of digital video cameras for next year. So they are leaving that market (good move).

Still a bit optimistic on digital cameras though at 8.0m. It will fall quicker than that.

They have leave a lot of markets
