Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is the biggest meltdown in gaming history?

SvennoJ said:
The removal of OtherOS / Linux from the PS3 caused the biggest meltdown.

George Hotz felt justified to hack and publish the encryption keys as reprisal.
Sony targeting hackers for prosecuting in court stirred up Anonymous.
Lulzsec former part of Anonymous hacked PSN in 2011, which went down for a month with 70 million accounts stolen.
Which led to Sony being questioned by different government agencies around the world, several lawsuits and fines, and an estimated 171 million dollar loss.

That is a really good one. And have put Anonymous on the frame because they ended endangering common folks.

I wouldn't mind people that down play games for futile reasons. You should do the same if you don't mind my suggestion.

I don't mind them (even more on genres I don't have interest).

Hope you have been enjoying your TF while it's hot... do you think it will keep kicking when new CoD and/or TF2 release?

Easily the XBO reveal and subsequent insanity. People saying FF XIII just don't remember it well.

When Nintendo betrayed Sony for Philips and the Xbox One reveal. And I don't really get why so many people are saying FF going multiplat, because, Sony never pays for 3rd party exclusives. I would consider that Destiny a game from Bungie that is also coming to the PS3&PS4 with exclusive content and first Béta is a bigger meltdown.

Are you talking about hypothetical meltdowns or historical meltdowns? I am guessing historical.

Atari 2600 was probably the worst of all time.

Sega leaving the console making industry was pretty bad. People don't seem to realize that as a third party they don't really care enough to perfect a game before it releases.

Rare going to microsoft is a close third. We have forever lost one of the greatest development teams of all time, and I don't think the outlook of their franchises is much better.

I'm somewhat torn about this next one. Sony pisses me off in a lot of ways but they did fix Nintendo's crummy attitude and they expanded the gaming industry many times over. I think they were necessary at first, but they've done horrible things in the last generation that has forever ruined countless franchises.

I think the legendary Rare becoming a developer for kinect games is not a meltdown but a sad waste.

Probably the gaming crash when 97% of the money from gaming just vanished in 2 years. Then FF13, the tears...oh the tears.

Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatorm, especially on Neogaf. The embarrasing posts about the death of Playstation that was meant to come about from that is still referenced today.

Also looking forward to some possible meltdowns later this year

I'd say Bayonetta 2 meltdown. We had both MS and Sony fanboys losing it for a while and it was hilarious! Mega64 even made a great video titled "The Bayonetta Suicides",

Capcom Reusing Ps2 Monster hunter assets over and over.
