FY2016 is the one ending in March 2016 and FY 2017 ending in March 2017, therefore releasing hardware in FY 2017 means Holiday 2016.

FY 2016 is the one ending in March 2017

Wasn't this one the FY2014?

In Japan, it's different. This was FY2013, as it went from April 2013 to March 2014.

I see. Still the possibility is there as FY2016 was mentioned in the OP.

No, he just listed 1st party games and said many others that are known for 2014 and 2015. Nintendo is listing eshop indie games for christ's sake, that's pathetic.

How does it appear to be that the console is being sold at a profit? Where did Iwata said that? Not selling at a loss =/= selling at a profit.

That last line is purely subjective and speculative. So vague that it could mean that after this E3 most users will be satisfied, hence the announcement of a new console. See how vague it is? And even the wording or translation is terrible. Being satisfied is different than having enough of something.

...and so you assumed that the "many other games" superchunk referred to meant 1st party only, and you didn't think that he might have meant the third party titles also included in the report. It may be better to wait until he gets back online to clarify.

Secondly, from the report on the Investors Briefing:

"Nintendo not experiencing a loss from hardware any more" - That's either break-even or profit, as I understand it.

Lastly, my statement "All Iwata has said is that there is work on new hardware in the pipeline as there always is, and that they won't be releasing a new console until existing Wii U owners are satisfied. No dates confirmed." was drawn from the following:

Iwata: we are preparing for next generation hardware as always, when will it release? Difficult to declare

"Iwata: we are preparing for the next hardware generation as always, when will it release? Difficult to declare"

"Iwata: not hopeless or at a loss in coming up with something new, but until existing users are satisfied, we cannot release next hardware" All quotes Via nintendoeverything.com

And regardless of the situation, it takes years to develop new hardware anyway; they start work on it pretty early in the lifecycle of the current product, and I'd be surprised if they had anything really good ready before 2017. What is being said here is nothing new.

I'm sure we'll get greater clarification when Nintendo release the details of the meeting in full, so until then, it's pointless deriding other people's interpretations.

Looking at this I cannot see how people can say Nintendo confirmed no new hardware until 2017-2018

"Iwata: we are preparing for the next hardware generation as always, when will it release? Difficult to declare"

"Iwata: not hopeless or at a loss in coming up with something new, but until existing users are satisfied, we cannot release next hardware"

This could go in both ways.

They're always working on the next project soon after the current one is released. I'd bet that MS and Sony are, too. If I can dig out the source, I'm pretty sure the Wii U was already there in concept as early as 2008.

(edit) - This shows it was already underway by April 2009

It's still selling terribly, it doesn't matter if they're making a few pennies more off each WiiU sold. A failed product is a failed product and I'm sure Nintendo realizes this. The software sells poorly unless it's bundled, and that's Nintendo's bread and butter. Just because a product is slightly profitable doesn't mean the company will be profitable in the end. A new Nintendo console will be out by 2016. I guarantee it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Not sure if this is bad or great. Sure the fans that got a WiiU will be relieved. But on the other hand they're still trying to resurrect it almost like a dead horse.

IMHO they could at least create a slimmer version that could totally depart from the Wii-like style and present itself like a "new" console on its own. But hey, it's not working very well with the Vita, maybe it won't work with this one too..

I predicted they'd show a new console or at least there would be rumours of new console in 2016 and it would release in late 2017. I stick by that.

That's not in contradiction with Iwatas statement and would be five years after WiiU-release. While 5 years is a bit short, it is not extraordinary, so I think that's quite possible.

Good. With the Wii U becoming profitable that means that the red ink may start to shrink and they could be back into the black by the end of the current fiscal year. I've said before that even if the Wii U doesn't surpass the GameCube in sales it will still be profitable in the long run. Nintendo's not foolish enough to nuke the Wii U like Sega did with the Saturn. Not only is the Wii U nowhere near the catastrophe that was the Saturn, but killing off the Wii U after less than three years on the market would breed too much ill will from actual customers and discourage potential customers from ever wanting to invest in a Nintendo console.

And 2017 sounds like a good target year for Nintendo's next console. Five years is the average gap between generations.

"Replace" means to remove & place a new one in it's place. All this means is they plan on removing the Wii U in a few years, but it's replacement may be on the market in 18 months since they are sure to have a time of overlap on the market.
