Very well said. I think discussions on gaming forums would be much for the better if people shared this philosophy. Sales are important, but they're hardly an end-all. I recall not even knowing how poorly the Gamecube sold until years after the 7th gen consoles came out, despite liking that console much more than the better-selling Wii. 

OT: I suppose you should be excited whenever your favorite console achieves something important. Whether or not this achievement is worth it, I suppose that's up to you...

Yeah i know back then games like goldeneye oot gt mgs resident evil etc all felt so fresh and new. Now nearly 20 years later the games all feel the same just with a new paintjob. We need new ips imo

Why celebrate when passing a console which has had a horrible first year? You guys should celebrate when the ps4 will pass 20 million.
Xbox and nintendo fans can celebrate when their console passes 10 million.

Not really, it's bound to happen and I think this gens gonna be in Sonys pocket whole gen if they play their cards right and keep making them exclusive games.

I am getting the impression that a lot of us are on this site for the simple curiosity of numbers and seeing what turns the market takes. There's a difference between celebrating one's achievements and waging a console war like this thread is doing. Although I have noticed that the Sony fanboys on this site are absolutely insane, they act like they would like nothing more than to see Nintendo fail because they took the crown from Sony last generation. 

I know.  I guess I thought when people actually went through the trouble of finding this site and then registering to the forums, they wanted to discuss sales.  I guess I forget that VGC is the only gaming site on the internet.  I'll have to remember that next time.

How hypocritical.  As if the Wii U all of a sudden blasted off, Nintendo fans wouldn't be boasting about sales, as well as poking fun at the Sony and MS fans who said the Wii U was dead and thee's really not much that can save it.  And no one wants Nintendo to fail to the point where they go out of business, they are just happy their console is on top.  Also, I wouldn't say they exactly took the crown for the whole gen, since the Wii started to decline greatly midway through the gen, and the PS3 is going to up extremely close to the Wii's sales.  They just borrowed it for a few years. 

There is a huge middle ground between being interested in something and being excited.

I mean honestly, I am interested because the industry seems like a huge necessary paradigm shift is coming and no one really knows how to get ahead of the curve. 

And the majority of those of you who are "excited" are just excited because you want to rub it in someone's face with carte blanche, which is extra pathetic.
