rofl!!!!!

It is hilarious, comparing a dumbed down overrated show to an award worthy epic like GOT. There is a reason TWD has had 4 different wirters 4 different seasons, it's a mess plot and writing wise.

Neither Game of Thrones nor The Walking dead are objectively good or bad.

There, problem solved.

Theres a lot of TWD hate in here for a thread about GoT...I personally love both shows (I do prefer GoT but that is just because GoT is god-tier) for very different reasons. The hate is unnecessary and out of place.

Anyways, to the OP, I say watch through to the end of season one and then think about whether you want to watch more. GoT is not for everyone (but I will say strike all of your expectations and try to go in clean).

I agree wholeheartedly. It basically sucked. Like the OP said, too many characters introduced, nobody is sympathetic or likeable, too much weird and unnatural people, I didn't care about anything or anyone. Pretentious and too modern try-to-be-badass dialogue.

Most modern series suck because they just try to wow you with the modern tough attitude and cynicism no matter if its unrealistic and what setting it takes place in. It's cheap and garbage.

+++UPDATE+++UPDATE+++UPDATE+++

I kept on watching another 2-3 episodes NOT expecting action, dragons and battles, but political affairs, corruption and abuse of power. I had the pedigree for all the families next to me and I finally got into it. I enjoyed it so much more than I used to.

There are just another 3 episodes left to watch I think so I just bought season 2. What a crazy turnaround that was.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Leave an update after episode 9.

Ladies,

I just started the Game of Thrones TV series, because I heard so many great things about it.
I watched the first 5 episodes or so and nothing really happened!

+++TINY SPOILER ALERT+++

A child was kicked out of a window, some guys are protecting 'The Wall' and a SHITLOAD of characters were introduced.
Every family is weird in one way or the other or has at least one weirdo. The main-character moved from North to South to serve the king and quite a few people are having sex with each other or random prostitutes.

--> When will this be a enjoyable TV Series? Did you feel the same when you start watching it?

Maybe I am spoiled, because I just watched The Walking Dead season 2 and 3. And I watched Sherlock Season 1 & 2 as well. I loved those and I really liked Lord of the Rings so I thought this will be just as good, but after 5 hours of watching GoT, NOTHING happened.

 This show has a very slow start, and has a lot of things going around at the same time. You need to know the characters and the setting to enjoy the show, and that takes a few episodes.

Completly overrated series. Got to the end of series 1 and couldn't take anymore. Never did I think "I must keep watching to find out what happens", because in all honesty, not a lot does happen. Terribly paced episodes and way too much softcore porn for comfortable viewing with the girlfriend. Expected an amazing show with the amount of hype, but it falls well below it. Talk of battles instead of actual battle scenes. Maybe it picks up later on in other series, but from what I've watched, i don't have the slightest urge to watch it. Too many other shows and movies I'd rather watch like Sherlock and Breaking Bad.

My perspective.

I love "A Song of Ice and Fire", it is my favorite book series ever and to me is the definitive work of fantasy of this era. So, yes, my view of the show is skewed. I had read all the books and followed the pilot and build up to the show. I knew these characters and their stories and histories. So, to me, watching the show was like seeing a story I knew in a new format. Of all possible outcomes the show succeeds roughly 90% of the time. Some changes I am not thrilled with (Loras character development was botched), but I understand the logistical reasoning of budgets and cast size. To me it is the greatest television program ever produced and I could watch any episode or the whole series on a whim. Of course, I obsess over the lines and see the layers of history, that Westeros, and indeed our own history is shaped by a chain of events and how chance plays a role (notice how many times things do not go as planned).

So I would go on and on about the glory of Game of Thrones. Then, my lovely lady being supportive tried watching the Blu Ray of season one with me.

"What is going on?" "Who is that?" Where are we?" Who is that again?"

I take for granted that these characters are as real to me as any person I've known. I had to often pause episodes and explain things. The Blu Ray extras were nice, but she admitted often being overwhelmed. She much rather watch Breaking Bad (great show by the way) with its two main characters in a place she knew (New Mexico).

I would say this, Game of Thrones requires investment and if these characters mean nothing to you then their words or actions mean nothing to you. To me it is a richly conceived world where things fit. Characters are products of their status, family and history. So, I get how Tywin is the way he is and how that has shaped his family. Not knowing his father, his family history and his personal history makes a viewer lose a great deal of understanding the man. The brilliant aspect to me is there is not one or two great characters, but over a dozen. Each playing their part in the grand story.

I will respect others who do not wish to read 1000+ books and endless entries on families and histories, but as you dig into lore I think you will find a truly remarkable and detailed work. Not sure that will convince anyone, if it is not for you so be it, just my half groat (two cents in Westeros...yes I am a nerd).

Now, if George Raymond Richard Martin would just finish Winds of Winter...
