I can see it if the the first person shooter bubble bursts. The industry has not given itself allot of wiggle room if this happens. It stinks because it has to be the best tech and the best graphics and everything else is secondary. Thankfully we still have nintendo doing there own thing.

Just to ask, what would a video game crash entail? I can't imagine people would just stop playing videogames. And if they are playing they are willing to pay for new experiences. I don't think it is possible in this day and age for any (major) entertainment product to "crash". The market is just too huge for that.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Are people out of their minds, so what if PS4 and Xbox One sold more than any other console at launch... That doesn't mean anything. That was fixed to happen before it ever even happened. Let me explain something to you, when a console releases, its popular, and often the stores selling those consoles will have line ups outside of them. This is because the store only gets enough consoles to satisfy about 1/10th of the people who want them...

SO OF F***ING COURSE THEY SELL OUT AT LAUNCH... Microsoft and Sony both held back their release dates long enough so they could produce enough consoles so they would break those records. IT MEANS NOTHING.

The Wii could have had 5 times those numbers if it shipped 5 million consoles, they would have all been sold.

Everytime I see something from Cracked or 9GAG I die a little inside.

Also, nope. Industry grew 65% last gen, on the middle of a global recession. It has everything on the bag to grow again this time around. I expect some 300 million consoles to be sold until 2020.

It already is stale like t four years ago.
as a business its good business as a hobby its already passed it's glory days, you really cant deny that, however even if that is what it is, good games come by from time to time, i myself find this better since I no longer play as much as I used to so playing just the good games is good.

I say Bullshit!!

The radio hasn't crashed, the tv industrie hasn't crashed.
They predicted the crash of cinema when tv was invented-did not happen.
The end of Music industry because of piracy-did not happen.

What will happen:
Gaming is volatile because of several changes in devices and phenomenons but the core remains the same.
Most tablett and mobile games are pure shit, social games appeared and dissappeared etc.
Will there be a cut? yes-several AAA games are in decline+AAA market is overblown. To many bears around the honeypott. Some must leave.
Stagnation due to many old(10years+) franchises may be the biggest threat(nintendo is just suffering on home while on handheld 3d for nintendo fans feel fresh)
but right now there are many new interessting franchises either were released or to come(watch dogs, destiny, the order, titanfall) huge demand for nextgen consoles +gta5 to become one of the best selling games of all times
+ virtual reality glasses could add a new dimension in gaming and create another boom.

The only way the gaming market will crash will be a crash of our money system because of too much debt.

People won't stop playing because someone says so.Gaming is too much part of habit and culture and as always the same shit like fifa/ madden/same shooter-different name is selling millions i donT know why this should stop.

Especially sports games change next to nothing ,give you a new rooster and the ripp off still works.Maybe cod, battlefield & gears will dissappear but they will replaced by some other shooters.

The shift to digital distribution will offset any other negative trends.

Those points are irrelevant, facts beat opinions, PS4 and XB1 best selling consoles ever.

You decide, whatever helps you sleep at night Nintendrone...

The gaming industry is not going to crash, it's seeing a transformation like the film industry did. A few publishers will control most of the big budget releases and then we'll see much smaller stuff from indies.

Given the two options, a crash would be preferable IMO. The business model video games had from roughly the early 90's to mid 00's seems like the ideal one from a consumer's point of view. If a crash were to happen, consumers would suffer for a few years, but somebody would pick up the pieces. If the game industry goes the way of the film industry... let's just say there's a reason why I don't watch many films.

Agreed.. If THAT is truly the directon the industry is going to go, that's a very sad day for me, and should be for all gamers. Just look at the filth from Hollywood.. I don't want that in my games. I'm seeing glimpses of it already and it already looks bad.. If the industry went with all all out Hollywood business style then it's time I find a new hobby.
