Forums - Gaming Discussion - Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Comparison PS3 vs. PS4

Now this seems about right, not the current gen shot we saw of Watch dogs that looked like a previous gen shot.

New consoles are definitly capable of more, but for now this is about what people can realisticly expect.

why does like every third guy in this thread say that the window is too small? don't you all just watch youtube videos of games posted in threads like this in full screen?

didn't really think people watch them in the size they are posted in.

You're still only watching each video on part of your screen and the general assumption is that your monitor is a lot smaller than your TV which you play games on. Added to that, YouTube 1080p isn't as good as the actual thing

€dit: posted from my phone and didn't watch the video. Ok the video itself is split in two parts and has huge black bars, forget my post. thought people meant the size of the video in op and not that the video itself doesn't really show the game in full size.

They are? Sony said that they wanted to build a console that is easy to develop for. The developers could easily use almost all power of the PS4 from the beginning, there is no "new tech" inside the PS4 like the PS3 cell, that is hard to handle.

If you look at the newest PS4 Killzone real ingame-videos they look really different from the first PS4 Killzone videos shown at the Sony event. Perhaps Sony did it again and faked some videos?

The noticeable difference between gens is really small, despite what some people would have you believe. Now, i also think that making a game from scratch to take advantage of those 8GB of RAM would be a bit better than what we're seeing which is a game constrcuted with the current gen specs as limiting factors.

looks the same to me. actually, the ps3 seems better on some parts. I'll wait for the same people who bashed wii u's ports for looking the same as the 360 version, to come here and say this is normal (it is normal, but it's hipocrisy from the ones who bashed wii u).

There are people here that are saying not much of a jump in quality of games because of a port of a current gen game?  It's not like Ubisoft is going to completely remake the game to take advantage of the next gen consoles.  They're just upscaling the game to have better resolution, add some extra effects, etc.  Assassin's Creed 4 might be running a bit better and look slightly better for next gen consoles, but it's not taking the next gen consoles much of anything  to do so.

I for one clearly notice the difference, even though small.  I took a screen capture of one part of the video.  Maybe this will help those of you out who don't notice the differences.

Now, a few posts on the first page have already stated they notice the water.  On the PS3 version, aside from the character in the background, notice how literally everything is far more blurred.  The character in the foreground, the cannon in the background, the railing, the poles connecting the railing to the floor.  Because of the shadows and colors, the character in the background is the only thing on the PS3 version that doesn't look blurry because of lower resolution.

Lol.  The "blur" effect you're mentioning here is a film technique used to focus the attention of the viewer on the character speaking.  It stems from traditional cameras and films, but is still used today even on digital films, and is often used in cinamatic games like this.  It has nothing to do with PS3 being too weak to render the front character in this scene.  I mean seriously.  PS3 can render this:

... but can't do two chaps chatting on a boat?  Come on.  I'd say the draw distance is better on PS4 and the water more detailed.  But let's be honest here, this is mostly just an up-rezed PS3 game.  The designers aren't going to spend millions to get millions more polygons in a game that is barely going to sell a couple hundred copies at best.

You're still only watching each video on part of your screen and the general assumption is that your monitor is a lot smaller than your TV which you play games on. Added to that, YouTube 1080p isn't as good as the actual thing

Still doesn't change the low-poly look of both versions.

I played the PS4 version at the Eurogamer Expo a few weeks ago. I was sitting about 1 foot from a 50" TV and it looked great. Blame the quality on the video not the game

I don't say anything about IQ, I am moaning about the poly-amount we see which is disgusting. Next-gen to me also means higher poly-models and this isn't.

So really its just the water then. Disappointing.

Look closer. The textures are much sharper, the view distance is longer, the shadows are much better. Pause the video at about 0:57. The detail of the rope on the steering wheel (sorry if there is a nautical term for it I am not a sailor) is much more realistsic looking on the PS4. You can even make out the facial features further away. It is a marked improvement.

i'm not judging you,..  just felt like giving you the word you were looking for.

helm.

I see it now...but hopefully it would be more noticeable in person; as the the games in motion tell a better story than static screenshots do.  It took a lot of explaining what the diffrences are and that isn't really a good thing for now.

Again, it's a current gen game upscaled to a higher resolution.  The differences a re  going to be marginal at best.  You want some major differences, compare the graphics to the game with a game that wasn't developed with last gen hardware in mind.

*edited*  Replaced the cutscene like image from Black Flag to an actual in game image.  Both of these pictures came from a 1080p source.  The game pictured below is The Division.  The difference in graphical quality isn't even close.

i'm offtopic, again, but i have to say it.  everyone that said games already look good enough and that next gen will be "marginal" and all that other blah blah blah,..   these pictures answer back with an estatic "fuck you".  the difference is already amazing and it's only going to get better.
