Forums - Gaming Discussion - Is Microsoft and Sony betting on the wrong horses ?

Except Titan Fall isn't a launch title :O. Not really sure what Xbox One has after Titanfall, but Sony has enough in development to spread games out for the next two years. Infamous was wisely placed in the spring. The order is probably coming out in time for summer, then that leaves whatever Santa Monica and Naughty Dog is working on which will bring titles from Sony well into 2015. Third Parties will fill in the rest (As will be the case for Xbox One.)

Sony can't possibly have a new AAA release every month. There are 3 solid launch title, then Infamous SS in the spring. Hopefully The Order in the summer. Sony will be counting on indie games to fill the drought in between major releases.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Sony/Microsoft have third party support, Nintendo is highly lacking in that area.

The difference between the Wii U and the PS4/XO is third party software.

Also, I don't know about Microsoft, but I hope Sony heavily advertises Infamous: SS. That game has the potential to really show off next gen hardware.

...and graphics, a more established online system and their own specific first and second party. :)

Wii U launch was strong. But then a big drought and mismanagement from Nintendo for almost a year left the console in the death path.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I see you don't mention W101 or X. Also  Mariokart 8 looks like the best/most innovative in years

I think both PS4/X1 will struggle after a initial strong Christmas selling period and I won't be surprised to see subscription models for both console as early as next year to counter a slump in console sales. The problem is the Third Party publishers that Sony/Microsoft are very reliant on would be very hesitant to make true exclusive AAA titles for PS4/X1. Because of the initial low user base and when there's still a massive potential audience on PS3/360. You only have to see GTA V gigantic sales to see their still a large buying audience on PS3/360 that Third Party will be very reluctant to abandoned for a long time to come. Expect Third Party support on PS4/X1 to be up-ports version of PS3/360 games for quite a long time to come.

On another note I do wonder IF just vastly higher powered console will really cut it going forward. As I think the rise of online Multi-player was a lot more important to PS3/360 success than actual upgrade in graphics. I know Microsoft has Kinnect 2 as another selling point to the X1 but the reception to it's mandatory inclusion has been somewhat lukewarm to even a hostile response.

It came across me that Sony relying on Killzone and Gran Turismo spin-off with different name Driveclub, and Microsoft relying on Forza 5 and Call of Duty with mechs Titanfall, may be as effective as the Nintendo reliance on Super Mario Bros, U and NIntendogs 3D to sell both the Wii U and 3DS at launch and failed miserably because nobody cares. I think Ryse and Knack, may be just as effective at demonstrating the new hardware and driving sales as Nintendoland.

Sure there are other games, but mostly, last gen slightly up-ports.

What if there is ZERO games that can keep the sales going, after the initial impulse buys and fanbase purchases, and both consoles will just struggle till the true next genness arrives on some new IP ?

I could possibly see this coming and watch the tides turn in favour of the Wii U, that is getting better and better and is inbound to receive a massive avalanche of key titles.

Not sure that Knack and Ryse are good bets either.  Knack is a mascot platformer, and Ryse got morphed into Microsoft's answer to God of War.  Heck, I am not sure I see anything either on the Wii U side that is going to make much of a difference either.

Knack, Driveclub, Ryse and Titanfall are all new IP's. There are others as well. I really don't get the point of this at all.
