Forums - Gaming Discussion - Its Sad That Free Online Is Now A Selling Feature...

We can't ask for a premium service yet no be willing to pay. However if I am paying I want an exceptional service from Sony.

We don't all ask for "premium service". I don't care about cross game chat or any of that stuff. I just want to play games...why do I have to pay for features I won't even be using? Why not just do what sony did on the PS3 and charge only those who want all that extra stuff and let every one else play for free?

I already know the answer, but its further ostracizing the consumers.

To people saying "everyone is going to be doing this soon so why complain about it", well, thats exactly the point of complaining. Unfortunately it seems consumers are so complacent on minor scale changes that the companies can just add up those minor changes until they pervert what owning a gaming console means... @.@

$70 or $80 here in Australia. I agree totally with the OP though. It should be optional. Premium paid service with games included and a free service like they have now. When you have a gaming PC which can play 99% of the same games online for free at higher resolutions, it makes next gen look really unattractive (Wii U is currently unattractive for different, hopefully soon to be rectified reasons).

Just a quick calculation for me. A PS4 costs AU$549, add PS+($70) and one game ($100): AU$729!! That's just at launch. Heaven help you if you plan on picking up multiple games.

You dont have to pay Sony to use the internet, just to use multiplayer. You have to pay Microsoft for everything else.

It is certainly outrageous, I used to have PS plus because it was definitely worth it. But now that they are tacking on multiplayer to PS plus I am not getting it again until a must have game has multiplayer just out of principle.

So you are going to deprive yourself of an obviously valuable product (you stated it's worth it yourself) in PS plus, because you're mad that Sony is charging for the online multiplayer portion when you've already been paying for the service anyway?  The fact that you are paying the same amount and getting all the same features (free games, discounts, early demos) means nothing would have changed for you whatsoever.  It only changes for those (like myself) who didn't subscribe and play online multiplayer.  Your reaction doesn't make much sense to me...but to each his own I guess.

I was one of those people that complained everyday about Xbox live being required for multiplayer. Just because Sony does the same thing for a debatetbly (that a word?) better service does not mean I will support it. Most multiplayer multiplat games can be bought on PC now for me and as for the rest as I said if it is must have must play multiplayer then I will get it.

Good for you. If a plus account was needed per person instead of per system, I wouldn't renew either.

At least with Playstation Plus we get some games thrown in. F2P games are free, even in multiplayer without PS+. But it still shouldn't be required for multiplayer but i guess it's just business. The PC always welcomes you if you do want to pay to play multiplayer though.

Sometime you get what you pay for, and if you get Xbox Live Gold you get so many features it's seems odd not to have it. You get plenty of free apps, music, movies, TV shows, search, and for the X1 you will need it for game capture and much more.

You can find it online for less than $40.00 a year. I totally understand not wanting to pay for it. But when you pay for a service, you expect it to provide you things. One pays for Netflix, gets movies/TV shows commercial free.

As I said, I can understand not wanting to pay for it. And yes the WiiU has it for free, but that's the new models that Sony and Microsoft are going to follow.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Tell me a funny joke!

It's sad that people think everything should be free.

I bet the same people who complain about XBL (and now PSN) charging for online have no problem shelling out $8/month ($96/year) to watch old movies and TV shows on Netflix.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I'm just glad that I'm not an online gamer, or I would be pretty mad.

Different service though. I do not really like tv shows or movies all that much compared to videogames so me and my friend did a free month of netflix each and basically got everything we wanted from those 2 months :D.

If we get servers, am all for it, but if we stay on that p2p lag fest crap, well then fuck paid online
