Forums - Website Topics - Updates from the Mod Team - Updated May 21, 2013 (because we're MS biased)

Good news! Time for a crackdown, the amount of jabs and cheap trolling in here has multiplied and a lot of users only post one type of post or thread. The endless threads complaining about the mod team were also getting annoying and out of hand, the ones who complain are ususally the ones who troll and then go right back to it after their ban ends.

We're getting close to 2007/2008 levels of behavior on the boards now, I'm glad to see you're taking measures, we've lost too many good members as it is.

I don't know why people even keep signatures enabled, the forum is a mess when they are on.  Glad to finally see avatar size restrictions.  Some of them were getting ridiculous.

You should add 3rd parties to the rule about trolling companies etc.

This.  A couple days ago we had a mod implying that trolling companies outside of the big three was basically sanctioned.

Updates #3 and #6 are obvious, and I'm surprised it even needs to be mentioned. Updates #4 & #5 were long overdue, so thanks for tackling those issues.

I hope Update #2 does not impact posts that contain legitimate negative criticisms of a product or brand.

And as for Update #1, can't say I agree with this. In fact, it seems like an attempt to sweep criticisms of the mod team under the rug. There have been a few recent user bans that have left a lot of people questioning why that user got banned (The little blurb placed in the banned user's profile is sometimes not sufficient). There have also been some recent posts that appear to be ban worthy, but the mods take no action. I rarely report posts to the moderators, but when I do, and no action is taken, I'm left wondering why the user was not moderated. Now you're saying that we can't ask these questions in the forum unless it's in the dedicated mod performance thread or easily ignorable PMs?

Agree

For this to work, mods have to be MUCH more responsive in PMs. In my experience it's about a 50/50 chance of even getting a response.

I sometimes report a post twice when it's obviously rule breaking but hasn't been moderated for many hours. That's not me trying to trick anyone, it's me thinking you missed a report.

We don't miss reports.  A Mod has to dismiss a report for it to be gone from the quere.  It works sort of like a shared email.  Furthermore the head mods can see all reports, even those dismissed AND who dismissed them.

So if something gets egrigously dismissed without moderation, Axum and/or Kantor will catch it... moderate and let the person who dismissed it know.

That said.  Generally the Mod quere stuff tends to have more then a couple mods eyes on it before it's dismissed.  Generally if the mods don't want to moderate someone we just leave it up for a couple others to confirm it being a non-deal.

In general, if you keep reporting something and it doesn't ever get moderated.  That should tell you to redefine what you consider moderatable.

If it takes a while, chances are there are either

A) No mods on.

B) A discussion about if the post is moderatable

C) If other posts that lead to that post are moderatable

D) The length of the ban required/how far away from a permaban is someone.

1. The public explosure comes from the fact that there aren't any tool or resource in this site to talk with the mod team or even report mods... the issue can be deu the website itself but most hate over the mod team comes from the fact the banned guy didn't even know the reason of the ban... how the intuitw to ban anybody without the guy knows why him had banned... hint: a email is better than PSNID, Live ID or Nintendo Code.

Another point is the fact the people in general, the mods included, are confusion the terms "trolling", "bashing" and "spamming"... most bans didn't fits in neither word and the mods use it to ban guys.

2. There are no negativity or the the users you listed leave the site because that negativity... I think the mod team are making confusion with the excitement created by the Next Gen and negativity... it is fine because it is the fisrt generation change after VGC creation (VGC was created after one year of the generation start).

But any change for better is good for all... so the mod team have my support in this change.

The others point I have no opinion about... they are objective rules so easy to understand and take it... I just think the 6 is useless because the report button itself is useless but that is only my opinion.

Good luck with the changes.

Worst timing ever. I've just gotten off a 5-day ban that was completely undeserved. I have taken it up with the mods though.

Did you get banned for trolling again?

I support these changes

Is my avatar okay?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Next step, an ignore feature. That would be awesome.

275px in height; you're well within the limit. Right click -> View Image Info to see in future (look at Carl's for something borderline).

More generally, I'm pleasantly surprised by the maturity you're all showing here. I'll be honest, I was expecting a far more negative reaction than this to what really is just a set of commonsense measures. Keep being awesome
