Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Indie dev says Nintendo going out of their way to pamper indie crowd

This brings a smile to my face

Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Of course it's not black or white.  As someone who deals with company PR it's definitely on a person by person basis.  You might get lucky and find someone that's super easy to get a hold of and always willing to help and then if they leave for a different company the person that replaces them may never return your calls.  You can't just say, "oh 2 companies had a good experience so that means Nintendo is always available".  Even if you could you're going to have to prove first that the two indie devs that you're probably hearing about for the first time today are more believable than Avalanche.

They're more believeable because they're users on gaf and we have had many cases of users on gaf coming out and saying things as they were. I think they are under threat of permaban if they lie about things like that if they are actually in the industry.

Also, this isn't about PR it's about tech support, way different things. But let's say I'll indulge you for a second. You're telling me that the support companies are getting from Nintendo are on a company by company basis, so certain accounts would be neglected by Nintendo and others not. If Nintendo is pushing for supporting indie devs, requiring was it no royalties on the Unity engine for Wii U (I can't remember), and bending over backwards for two companies that have spoken out (not just helping, but it seems even pleasing), I'm not sure why I should believe Avalanche.

And the truth comes out. I hope everyone who bashed Nintendo for things they didn't do will be put to shame.

Some devs think that working with Microsoft is terrible and some think that it's good. That doesn't mean that one of them is lying. They just have/had different experiences.

Nailed it.

This is not about the general experience, it's about Nintendo's availability. I believe it's black on white, they're available or their not.

I can vouch for this though I've been fortunate that only one fo my Golin Harris reps were hard to reach.  Everyone else was quick to respond and great to work with.  Either for review games or setting up interviews.  But that's NoA.   NoE may be more of a pain in the ass for all I know.

Ironicaly though, my staff tried contacting Avalanche in the past.   Never got back to us.

And how exactly would you prove that said Indie devs were lying about being treated nicely in order to permaban them, seems like a pretty damned weak threat to me.

oh goody, my reasonable idea about the possibility of variance in experiences when dealing with a large group of people....huzzah~

You also know people have different experiences with tech support too right?  One person might say Sony is awesome every time they call while another has no luck.  It's the actual person you are dealing with that determines it.

I'm not saying that Nintendo as a company is specifically deciding "hey lets give ____ support but fuck _____".  I'm saying that two people can have different experiences with the same company and that doesn't mean one is lying, it just means one had a good experience with the company while the other didn't.

You can vouch for it all day it doesn't change the fact that Avalanche doesn't have to be lying in this instance, if you had one contact that was hard to reach maybe Avalanche just continued to be unlucky.  That's just now variations and probability work, unless you've had contact with every single Nintendo rep you can't tell me that they are always easy to contact for everyone know more than Avalanche can tell people that they are always difficult to contact for everyone.  All either of you can do is speak for your own experiences which again does not make Avalanche a bunch of liars.

I just backed up your statement by showing different reps give different response times.  I didn't refute it.  Relax.

Oh, I mistook what you were vouching for, thought you were vouching for the idea that Nintendo is always easy to contact.  nvm then, my apologies.

Like I answered to Talal, it's not about the experience, it's about the availability. Avalanche said they were had to get to, you're talking about the experience.

Two different things.

“Nintendo have from our point of view has always been difficult to get in. You never quite know where to turn. Now, however, we have managed to get through, via the publisher we work with.”

EDIT: I might be reading "difficult to get in" the wrong  way, it's possible. They could mean difficult to get up and running, not difficult to get in touch with.

Ultimately, I guess if it's the latter then the latest testimonials from the people in OP lead to believe that that Avalanche's report is either untrue or outdated. I trust the gaf guys because so far the people speaking up there have been saying things that ended up either true or correct. I feel the contrary for press releases in the media. If your experience is different than mine then I respect that.

I was saying I've been fortunate that all but 1 were easy.  And I've never dealt with NoE who could be far worse (which I've heard before).

EDIT:
Granted I don't think their media/consumer support is handled by the same as developer support anyway.
