Forums - Sony - Is sony going to learn their lesson with the PS4 and not over price it?

whatever, saying it's based on something else isn't an argument to diminish tech pieces.

about the bolded part: there are 7 billion people in the world and i don't recall any of them asking your opinion about that. try trolling someone else.

That's the thing. I live in a free country.
One of those freedoms is the freedom of speech, so hence I am perfectly allowed to voice my opinion, regardless if you or anyone like it or not, provided I am following the rules and/or regulations of the particular place, which as far as I see, I am.
I am not going to ask for your permission to post something, don't like it? Stiff, deal with it.

And for the record, I wasn't trolling you at all, merely providing information in a non-negative or derogatory way, how you came to that conclusion really baffles me.

PS4 will be 449-499.

Don't know what it is with people saying 399 when that's obviously a big loss and they are looking at a flat operating net income. Not gonna take huge losses with this thing.

The parts for the PS4 cost $450 or atleast similar parts cost about the same.  Sony also made the comment that sounded like they're going to take a small loss, so the system may very well cost $399.

retailers need to profit. for the price to be 399 they would have to buy it for much less.

Retailers do profit.  For a $60 release, a first party publisher probably makes around $30 for each copy sold.  You wouldn't count first party titles as making a profit for the system though until they reach the amount of sales that make the game itself profitable., but two first party titles at $60 would turn a profit for the PS4 if the estimated $450 to build a PS4 is correct and $399 is the starting cost.

Even if they don't make the money back right then, how long is the PS4 going to be out.  These people will atleast purchase five or more games, third or first party, so in the end the system is going to profit regardless of them taking a $50 loss.  I'm sure there will be five Call of Duty titles, and those people will probably get other FPS' too.  This isn't going to be like the PS3 where Sony was taking a $300-400 loss on each system.

well, just to provide you with some information, there is no such thing as "freedom of speech" in private places (like this forum or somebody's house for example) - if the owner doesn't like what he hears/reads he may tell you to leave/ban you

Hence, within the guidelines, I did state that in my post.
They are also not the owner of the forum or a moderator, so that point is moot.

and that what made it paradoxical - you were aware there was no freedom of speech here, yet you felt the need to cite that, why? it felt forced and overly dramatic

If its the same price as the XBox 720, I don't see it as a big deal, even if they're both $499.99.

When the PS3 was $599.99 versus $399.99 for the 360 though, that was a big problem because it was a full $200 gap (not to mention Wii).

Rewind time to about a year and a half ago. The Vita launched at well over 200 dollars. Had a great launch line up and some pretty sick power and functions. It was largely ignored by the World.

The price is still the same in most areas and it has hurt the system alot. There are a decent amount of games now, but it is hard for some to justify buying a gaming handheld that cost about as much as a Wii U and a smart phone.

Now Sony has said it will not lose money on the PS4, and many rumors has it at astronomical prices. Do gamers want to pay 300-500 for consoles anymore? It worked with the PS2, but that was then. Now there are mobile devices, PC games, Steam, 360 and it's successor, and many other options.

So have they learned their lesson, or are we just getting a giant sized Vita that is bulging at the seems with its price point?

I do not know if it is smart to test gamers pockets like this after what happened with the Vita.

Didn't the PS3 start to really take off once the price actually came down to decent levels?

Have you read the statement by the CFO of Sony??? What was he referring to about the losses of the PS3? He was on about the development costs of the PS3 and specifically its bespoke arcitecture the Cell CPU. That cost a fortune to develop. They then had to invest a fortune in the fabrication process and factories. Money which Sony had to invest. This time round the development cost is a fraction of that. No money needed for the fabrication and building as a chinese or tiawanese company will handle the building and development was shared with AMD. Also the Blu Ray drive was a huge outlay too so again there will be massive savings there too! Sony will be prepared to lose about $50-100 on each console. Which at launch is nothing.

PS4 will come in at $399 or $450 max!

Sure hope not

I think that will be hard to avoid, seeing as Sony ia as hell bent on making the PS4 a bleeding edge system as with the PS3. I believe the PS4 will be as unafordable for many as the PS3 was in it's early life.

let me explain again, if the console costs 450 and retails for 399, that is NOT A $60 LOSS FOR SONY, IT'S MUCH MORE THAN THAT. if it's retailing for 399, that means sony is selling for a sub 340 value. I don't think any retail would buy a system for 399 and sell for the same price, that's the point.
