Forums - Gaming Discussion - 720 will Decide if WiiU RAM is enough.

I think MS intends to run Windows 8 on 720. I think they also expected PS4 to have 4 gig total. I think Nintendo also expected that, thus WiiU would only be at a 50% dissadvantage. The multi-media windows focus of 720 could suck a lot of game RAM. But MS may have changed plans with the PS4 reveal.

Nintendo never put into play what their competition would do . They always design off into their own world. When they got caught on CNN Reggie told everyone to wait and see about the specs of the PS4 and the PS4 blew away expectation for next gen. They expected the PS4 to be close to them not so far away. Reggie never got the memo that third parties had sent Sony and Microsoft a message that 8 GB is what is needed for next gen. In March he got the memo the hard way and. 4GB of RAM will be expended within the first two years of the gen.

Actually Nintendo didn't allow third parties room to breathe and be themselves and thats how they ran the NES/SNES era. When Sony arrived they did what Sega couldnt and gave third parties and alternative that will make their own great games and allow third parties to fly. This is why they flocked to Sony for the format perks. Since then its been a beautiful relationship, hands down Sony and Microsoft deal with third party in a fair manner compared to Nintendo. Nintendo expects third parties to drop their aspirations to suit their weak console specs. That wont fly if the market is growing and has money to spend. This new gen will start off a little slower than normal but third parties now have a backbone because of companies like Sony and Microsoft.

It's also beautiful that Sony is making its way to bankruptcy. In other words, it's beautiful for 3rd parties but I don't believe in the business model (loss-leading, buying out 3rd parites).

Sorry.

honestly i think MS is pulling a sony for the moment.  up until the reveal sony communicated 4Gb of ram to developers and then raised it to 8 (or 7 or whatever).  i'll bet MS is just saying for the moment that devs have 4Gb and once they make their official reveal they'll get more.

I wouldn't doubt it.

Keep talking about Sonys business model when we know its their outer gaming region that is the true loss leader. Sony has taken risks with consoles because they know they'll reap the rewards later and they have. The Vita is their only true flaw that is taking a while to pick up. The Move of all the last gen peripherals was the best...but had no games to show how truly precise it was compared to the competition.

The PS4 will be more affordable to put together and sell than the PS3 if you listened to what Sony said at the unveiling. It worked out best in everyones favor...words Nintendo fails to understand. Theres no everyone with them when it comes to development planning.

The simple concept of having to suck up to 3rd parties is, just philosophically, wrong. To have to pay 3rd parties to play on your platform, there's a problem. That's a problem MS and Sony feed. Nintendo doesn't play like that and never will.

So, for 3rd parties to come back to Nintendo, that business model will have to implode first, sadly.

4GB for the OS would be ridiculous. Not even Windows uses that much, with endless programs running in the background and multiple internet browser tabs open.

We don't even know if the 720 will allow multi-tasked apps. If it does, these do require memory and it could amount to a gig if needed. That would need to be reserved in advance.

No one is sucking up to third parties its just smart business if you want to be known as the console with everything. If you're a selfish brand like Nintendo is that only sees their vision for their product rather than their product being a vessel for many visions featuring their first party, then its easy to see why they are in the position they are in. Lets see where pandering to the casuals takes them...oh wait...we already did and they are selling less than current gen consoles because they are already giving you the same crap. Nintendo is out of touch with being a universal source. They ran third parties with an iron fist. No partner should be treated that way.

If that were true I would actually agree with you, but in the mean time the architectures Sony and Microsoft go for are not in a performance range to support that argument. The consoles are designed as loss-leaders. It's not something you can say someone is selfish about if they refuse to join.

Catering to the casuals is irrelevant in this criticism.

(Anyways I'm on league I'll be back after my game to argue with you, cause it's fun)

well said... but microsoft might give it a push too, to kill nintendo with their 3rd party...
but if they put on a 4 gig with a much cheaper console, now they could turn the table against sony being too expensive again like the ps3 era, until the technology catch up, until the pocket catch up, until a price cut has been implemented

Microsoft wont deny third parties the 8GB of ram they demanded.

seriously Nintendo should have gone back to cartridges style games with X gb pf ram inside each as required lol.

Then market the console as NO LOAD TIMES. In theory devs should be able to achieve that on flash memory..

God I miss those days...
