If that were true I would actually agree with you, but in the mean time the architectures Sony and Microsoft go for are not in a performance range to support that argument. The consoles are designed as loss-leaders. It's not something you can say someone is selfish about if they refuse to join.
Catering to the casuals is irrelevant in this criticism.
