It's all personal preference really. Ni No Kuni is something else. Last time I've been this charmed by a videogame was back with Final Fantasy 9. Nothing last gen even came close, except perhaps Dark Cloud 2 which I felt was let down by the dungeons in the end, and Skies of Arcadia.

Without going too much off tangent, PSP and DS are considered current gen and those 2 platforms have great JRPGs out the ass. Your title should perhaps be altered to, 'lack of great JRPGs on home consoles this gen', and even then I'd debate it.

On the HD twins maybe...

Ironically, i think the Wii U will be the console to bring back the JRPG genre to its best.

I didn't like count a lot of games soriku listed because I didn't like them .hack, xenosaga, DDS, radiata stories. These didn't review that well or I didn't like them. You'd have to count some of these as some of these reviewed well, or have cult followings like shadow hearts (which reviewed horribly).

My point wasn't that, this gen was better (I liked it more because to me it had more gems which is what matters to me). It was that there are plenty of JRPG's unless you're a  only play JRPG's type of person.

Unless you've played the majority of listed RPG's (which he doesn't even have a wii), it's hard to be truthful when saying ZOMG no JRPG's!

The OP hasn't played Last Story, Xenoblade, Tales of Graces, Pandoras Tower. Decides handhelds don't count despite many JRPG's (like all of Atlus's Games) migrating over due to costs, and appeal to the japanese market.

I'll agree that last gen was better in terms of overall quality. I think this gen still has some pretty nice gems and decent JRPGs. This is how I would base them based on the ones I own and have played. This is on consoles only. Not including handhelds.

Then you got Xillia, Toki to Towa, Lightning Returns...and more coming. This generation hasn't been all bad, so I don't understand why people say "ohh only 2 of the 5 JRPGs this gen were good."
