too little information for me atm. when does the price get cut? the later the cut the less likely it will be up or even equal YoY. the only thing i'm willing to rule out is "sensational" at this point.

Well, everything is possible. Some big game (think Monster Hunter) might increase sales. Also we don't know yet about connectivity between Vita and PS4, might be Sony has something innovative.

ps4 will be out sept at the absolute earliest and will certainly sell less than 4M in 2013.   too few adopters to make a difference this year especially 'cause after droping $400 on a ps4 who is going to turn around and buy a vita the next week?  no, that will affect 2014 if at all.

big games could be one thing.  but unless soul sacrifice does amazing i don't know what that game would be.  i'm sure sony has unannounced games but the really big ones like MH typically get announce 1y+.  so again, probably nothing game changing this year.

that leaves price cut as, imo, the only hope for YoY growth.  a very sorry truth as i believe the system is amazing.  but a truth none-the-less.

I edited the poll to use a better wording, sorry, that seems to reset votes.

I think it rests on this really. I can't see any system selling games being made for it given what happened this year, so whatever they do here is key. Also, Gaikai with a large selection PS1/2 games through a PS+ subscription all playing on Vita? That would have to shift some units

Did you include the 2011 Japan sales?

Because those should not be included with 2012.

I agree on this, I myself voted more pessimistic that it will sell about the same. But you never know what will come and might changing things on a big scale.

The weekly sales graphs show ... weekly sales (surprise, surprise). The gloabl YTD-chart does not include the previous year-sales. If you don't believe me, look at the files, I linked it at the end of the OP.

I said several months ago that the Vita wouldn't see much growth until the second half of 2013 or 2014. In Japan, which should be its best territory, too many PSP games are still in the pipeline. Games like Sword Art Online are going to do nice numbers for the PSP. Obviously, this doesn't help the Vita's cause very much. Compile Hearts having a Vita game in development is a good sign, though, I think.

I expect good things from games like Demon Gaze and Soul Sacrifice. There are definitely releases coming out that will help the Vita in Japan. They just need to mount up. Europe needs Gran Turismo or another racing game. North America, I just don't see moving up much for any reason. It would take something trendy like Pokemon catching on and I can't imagine that happening. Adults playing handhelds in North America is a niche market and the Vita has very little to grab the attention of kids.

If I were Sony, I think I would announce a price cut roughly the same time that Soul Sacrifice is supposed to release. That would lead to a solid jump, I'm pretty sure.

Ouch...

I was thinking I, that Sony will keep supporting the Vita and the PS4-launch at the end of the year might bring some sales. I didn't consider price-cute, because I have no idea how that will influence sales on the long run and if it even will happen this year. That's why pessimistic.

But yes, you say console-gaming as a whole will face some major problems, I remember. I hope you are wrong, but sadly you have arguments that support your opinion.
