Oh yeah, and could you make the background in the graph a grid? It'd be easier to distinguish the actual numbers that way.

Anyway, great thread!

Sorry, forgot that. Better now?

Superchunk already has a thread about this... But that one's pretty dead most of the time - so I don't think this'll hurt.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Some people usually very interested in WiiU numbers absent strangely.

Can you make the data lines slightly thicker and change the Wii colour to something darker. Thanks.

Maybe they are playing WiiU instead of looking at numbers.

I changed line-thickness and made Wii black, but I'm not too happy with that color either. Any suggestion?

Nintendo dominates launches according to the graph. Not surprising, over 25 years in the game you learn a few things.

Very good thread and the OP is well done. Keep it up

Those are great launch numbers. There may be a 10% margin of error but nonetheless, great sales for a just released console. Nintendo has smartly learned from the 3DS fiasco. Nintendo is holding much of its cards close to their chest as stated by Iwata during the Investor's conference meeting in Q1. Regardless, I may be over-thinking it, but I feel as though the announcement of Pokemon coming up soon is no coincidence. It will most likely be a new 3DS generation with a Wii U game that compliments it much like Monster Hunter 3G.

And the argument from people that Wii U is not 'next-gen' is simply baffling. Furthermore, Nintendo has smartly positioned itself away from their competitors. Microsoft and PS4 will most likely follow the same route as they usually due - power. To this day, developers are struggling with costs with current gen and the investment return is slim already. Imagine developing for the Next Xbox and PS4, it will simply not be a sustainable business model.

I think Nintendo will be the dominant player in this next-gen ecosystem.

Yellow ?

I thought you wanted something darker. But anyways, tried - it may work. Tried orange first, but that was too similar to the red of PS3 and looked strange on the weekly chart.

The Wii U only looks "bad" in comparison to the Wii and because, unlike the previous generation, all previous generation consoles are still selling fairly well. By the time the XBox 360 came out the XBox and Gamecube were selling at a very slow rate, and even the Wii is selling at a faster rate today than they were back then.

The Wii U is selling quite well and, while non-holiday sales are important, being that 40% to 60% of sales can happen in the last quarter of the year, Nintendo could have very impressive sales this year if they have a really strong software line-up in the second half of the year.

Very good thread, I look forward to the updates!

I'm not sure what Nintendo is going to do, but I'm fairly certain they have a strategy that plays to their strenghts for 2013 ...

Zelda, Mario, Mario Kart, Wii Fit, Smash Bros, Wii Sports, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Party, Wii Play, Brain Training, and Animal Crossing have all been huge series for Nintendo and it is likely that we will see many new titles in some of these series in 2013; and it is likely that Nintendo will also have some titles that could be their next break-out hit in 2013.

People don't seem to understand that Nintendo had 15 games that passed 5 million sales on the Wii that are spread out across a varitey of series, while Microsoft had 10 (4 Halo, 3 Gears of War, 2 Kinect, and Forza) and Sony had 4 (2 Uncharted, Gran Turismo and Little Big Planet), which means Nintendo can release several games a year that are as big as the biggest games from Sony or Microsoft without releasing yearly installments of any game.
