Forums - Movies & TV - Avengers: The Most Overrated Movie of the Year?

On the Avengers: "Over rated" is easily the lamest most empty criticism of any work I have ever witnessed. It tells me nothing and comes off as whiny that other people liked something you did not.

What was the Avengers?
It was a big flashy action film with heavy use of special effects and quick dialog. It balanced the large cast well with the focus of the heroes meaning the villains were rather forgettable. Still, with all the moving parts in play easy to see how a less capable director would have butchered such a project.
It was a fun film that if super heroes remotely appeal to you is worth a watch, but you may need to view all those previous Marvel films to "get" who these characters are.

It had great action, great special effects, some good character development, and great characterisations, the Hulk being the prime candidate for that.

However, in the end it turned into another: "superheros defending the 'helpless' humans from an alien threat hell bend on destroying the world/ or taking over the world, delete as appropriate".

The aliens were aliens, nothing more, Loki was pretty good. But ultimately I feel like the big bad who is rumoured to be Thanos will be another dictator trying to take over the universe.

I know I might be being a bit harsh, but well The Dark Knight spoiled me. The Joker and Two-Face were villains who transcended anything that had been done before in comic book movies, maybe even in any movie. TDK wasn't perfect, but we're coming into an era now where the villain is just as important as the main character. This will be evident in the case of the Star Trek sequel. Thats how Bane was done, thats how the best villains will be done. Avengers was a great action movie, more than that I don't think so.

For me it's actually The Hobbit

The hobbit got bashed by the reviewers though how does that make it overrated?

Well I went with the imdb.com score

But i should've remembered that sometimes the score on imdb is way off .. somtimes the movies have been "trolled" by low scores.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Of these choices? Ted, not the movie I expected it to be. Of 2012? DKR, I liked the 1st two movies a lot better. Just my opinion on these things.

TDKR wins by a country mile. So dissapointing after the excellent TDK_

What about the second?

The 2nd two movies would imply that their has been released 4 movies from DK series. But DKR alone vs the 1st two as said 1st two movies win.

Just saw Cloud Atlas and all I have to say is WOW! How is this movie overrated? It's probably the most unique, thought provoking films this year! I get it... There are no explosions or a bad guy or an overly simple plot that everyone can pick up on. But the message if the movie and the overall experience of this movie especially in this day in age is just astonishing! I saw this movie on a whim and it turned out to be my favorite movie of the year! I only wish I saw i saw it in IMAX! Time to pre order blu ray I guess

edit: yes I also believe Avengers was super overrated. Don't know how Cloud Atlas got on the list though considering it doesn't have that great of a metacritc score or rotten tomatoes score.

Most over-rated? Don't know because I didn't see all the movies, but I definitely was not impressed.....wasn't impressed with DKR either.

I thought Dark Knight Rises was better in truth.

I thought the movie was boring, slightly better than Iron Man 2, on par with Thor / Avengers. How it grossed over 1.5 Billion and 92 RT score is beyond me.
