2.  I didn't even know the PS3 had pressure sensitive buttons-- that's how much they're used.

3.  From the sounds of it, the few games that do use them don't use them well.  Even without people saying that I can still tell they're confusing to use.

Yeah they're not used often but Fifa is a good example of a game where the sensitivity of the buttons changes the gameplay. You use it for controlling the distance and speed of your shots, while also using the sensitivity of the anaolgue sticks to control the speed of the player. It really makes the game feel much more intuitive and realistic having the extra demension of control.

I much rather have the option then not, for me Fifa would not be the same without it.

I'm not really trying to say they aren't worth having, but they're hardly the definitive reason the PS3 controller is better than the 360 controller like the OP mentions.

For me, the two biggest issues are the D-Pad on the 360 controller and the triggers on the PS3 controller.  The D-Pad really isn't used that much for games (and fighting games, where they're primarily used, a lot of people buy a seperate controller for anyways) or isn't used in a way where precision is really needed but most modern games use triggers.

Well to be honest this topic reminds me of this gif:  http://awesomegifs.com/wp-content/uploads/dead-horse.gif

However, I have not seen posters mention much about the sensitivity of the buttons before, so that's a little new and interesting. I feel sensitivity does have something to offer in the form of certain gameplay experiences.

Both controllers are fairly good as far as I'm concerned, I've grown accustomed to using either. I also wish the PS3 triggers were a little fuller and more angled, and I never really use the 360 d-pad, so that's kind of a non-issue. Earlier issues were the lack of rumble and disposable batteries. Man, I hated using disposable batteries.

I like the playstation controller because of one main thing

symmetry. I hate the fact that on the 360 you have an analogue top left and bottom right. Just doesn't make any sense to me.

With that been said i am sure their are people around who had a 360 for their first console and then tried a dualshock and found it strange.

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I'm some kind of mutant. I jump between the Dual Shock (which I've been using since the mid/late-90's) to the 360 controller without a second thought. I can even do the Wii Remote without breaking a sweat. The Wii Classic Controller--the one without a grip--is the only one that gives me a little grief. That's because I have huge manly hands, though.

The difference between the two HD controllers and their feel/functionality is pretty negligible to me.

Same. They both feel really great to me, I've recently taken a liking to the Gamecube controller too.

Just my two coins in the debate (as if anybody would care ^^) :

I use a X360 controller for PC gaming (Shank, Blur, Witcher 2, Batman:AC & AA, Darskiders 2, Recettear). I bought it to play Dead Space 1 years ago. I use it, it works fine, but I feel it too heavy and too big. After long gaming session, I feel my hands a little stiff... Also, :captain obvious mode: the D-pad is just shit, in some games, you just end up with the wrong command because of that... I can't imagine the fighting games player what a nightmare it must be...

I use a PS3 controller for :revelation: my PS3 games. FPS, Action games and blah blah. I like it because I feel it very lightweight. However, on the minus side i think the position of the trangle cross circle square buttons are too low for my hands.

If we need to declare a winner I'd say... Game Cube controller ! Position of buttons, weight, reliability, If they had added another shoulder pad button, and remove the click on the shoulder pads, then it would have been perfection incarnate.

Ok, that was my two coins. Now you can bring pitchforks !

Aside from that awful D-pad this is something that is almost always overlooked in comparisons of the two controllers. The playstation control measures how hard the top buttons are pressed while the Xbox controller's buttons sit stiff and just register a press as a press. In games you are capable of lightly pressing a button for different effects. This is best illustrated in the HD metal gear games which allowed you to lightly press to aim then hold to shoot. Something that is impossible in the Xbox versions. This could be an inportant feature in many games like a platformer but it wouldn't be there due to the xbox. It annoys me that this is almost never brought up in discusions.

The ps3 controller is my preference especially for beat'em ups, platformers, and fighting games. I have never had a problem with it it being uncomfortable as I hold all my controllers with my fingers rather than my palm (somthing you shouldn't do anyway as it can lead to hand injuries after a certain amount of time).

There's a fairly simple reason why it's never brought up in discusions, it's because people don't give a damn about that feature. That's like saying the DualShock 3 is better because of Sixaxis control.

Signature goes here!

This is a good topic, much like "The reason PS3 exclusives outsell 360 exclusives."

Agreed, the Gamecube controller was pretty awesome, though a bit odd.

They are both solidly built, but the only thing I prefer about the PS3 controller is the D-Pad. But I like the 360 controller better in almost every way. It's larger build feels better in my hands, I prefer the triggers over the musshy L&R2 buttons on the PS3. I prefer the D-Pad below the analog on the left side of the controller, since the D-Pad is used for secondary purposes in most games now. PS3 has a much better remote control though, I hate that the 360 one is infrared.

well, it's simple: the 360 pad was made to be awesome for shooter game and the dual shock 3 was made to be awesome for any kind of game
