Forums - Gaming Discussion - Was graphics power part of the reason the PS3/X360 took most top 3rd party games from the Wii?

Do you think graphics had a play in it?

If not what did?

If so would this gen repeat itself since the WiiU will not be a very big graphical jump compared to the others?

Graphics, big yes. Also, consumer perception. If the people who buy a console don't think "just dance" when they see the machine, they are very unlikely to buy, say, "Assasin's Creed"

My thread for teaching VGC some Nigerian slangs

Yes, end thread.

Technical limitations definitely played a part, but it wasn't only that.

Nintendo went for a specific target market with the wii. That market is not the same as PS3/360 target market. Developers simply made games for the consoles on which they think has the highest selling potential.

With regards to the wii u - i dont think it will have the same problem. The wii u doesnt have the same technical limitations as the wii has. And nintendo seems to be going for the same market as ps3/360.

This doesnt explain the lack of third party support though, where third party developers could have made games specifically for the market of the wii. But not many were willing to do that, for obvious reasons.

Intel Core i7 3770K [3.5GHz]|MSI Big Bang Z77 Mpower|Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 2 x 4GB|MSI GeForce GTX 560 ti Twin Frozr 2|OCZ Vertex 4 128GB|Corsair HX750|Cooler Master CM 690II Advanced|

i dont believes so, GC was the same or better than PS2 wheres gta and the other 3rd party games for it?

other games towards the end of this gen did make it to wii like COD, i do believe it was part of the reason but not entirely, other things like online functions, fanbase, and lack of a controller also contributed

i think the wiiu will have decent 3rd party support till about 2014 and onwards i believe that some of the PS360 multis that will release on the wiiu wont sell well, and once the next sony and ms console release power, controls, and online functions will again be a issue for the WiiU

first off, PS360 didnt take anything from WIi, you have to have had it for it to be taken away. Those games were never being developed for WIi in the first place. 360 was out before so alot of these games were being made with HDs in mind. But yes power did play a part

Similarity of the technical abilities of PC/360/PS3 so they can be ported rather easily without making any break out changes in the game (not to forget online modes).

So yes if Wii was in the same ballpark technical wise as PS360 it would have gotten much more ports.

Third party exclusives are only profitable if they were made with a low budget (therefore lots of shovelware and not so many real approaches).

Third party publishers 'bet' heavily that the PS3 would repeat the success of the PS2, and before the Wii U was even announced they had already heavily invested in HD projects. By the time the Wii had proven itself, third party publishers already had too much invested in the success of the HD consoles to change strategy; and they focused on a multi-platform strategy (XBox 360, PS3 and PC) to minimize the risk/damage.

Rol has quite a good point, but the main reason is the one posted by HappySquirrel imo.
