Forums - Gaming Discussion - GamrTalk Ep. 1- RolStoppable!!! (FULLY UPDATED!)

Note- If anyone has questions for Rol, let me know in the comments section and I'll ask him the best ones ASAP!

Hello guys, and welcome to the first EVER edition of GamrChat! I'll be your host today, and we've interviewed RolStoppable for this week!

Just a quick note before we begin- both me and Darth apologise for the delay for these threads to come out. Some last-minute changes and illnesses, work and other stuff meant we had to pust this back. Rest assured, this won't happen again (hopefully!), and the next show shall occur on Saturday's at 7PM BST from here on in!

Also, if you haven't read the original thread, do so now! That lays down the groundwork, as well s the rules and how to apply to be on the show! Applicants are open for next week's show now, let me or Darth know in some way or another and we'll get back to you as to when we can give you your show! Anyway, onto the interview...

Note- If anyone has questions for Rol, let me know in the comments section and I'll ask him the best ones ASAP!

Cone- So, Rol, welcome to the show! How does it feel to be the first person on the show then?

Rol- Nothing special at all, and depending on how you present the thread, it may be bad. Do not disappoint me...

Cone- Oh dear! So, tell us a bit about yourself then...

Rol- I am a gamer who wishes to give out as few details about his personal life as possible, so I'm afraid I can't tell you anything that you don't already know, if you stalked my posts for the past four years (or even four days...)

Cone- Oh you...I think we all know the answer to what sort of person you are from your posts then...

Cone-  what did you think about this year's E3?

Rol- In my opinion, gaming is in a terrible state right now, and the future doesn't look at all bright. You said it wouldn't take long to do this, so I'll leave it at that for now...

Cone- I suppose that's a good thing.

Rol- I'll expand on this if someone asks, however.

Cone- Alright then. It's probably for the best anyway. We don't want to start a war on our very first show now, do we?

Of course, all of this wouldn't be possible without the new look VGC, GamrConnect 2.0. What's your HONEST opinion on the site then?

Rol- To answer that question, I prefer the new site, simply because some of the older features got added back in. Considering how bad to first version of GamrConnect was (1.0), it wasn't much of an accomplisment in my eyes to present an improvement with 2.0.

(Ed's note- I suppose now would be a good time to say I only actually joined 10 months ago; I never actually knew what the site was like BEFORE 1.0. So, this is definitely an improvement for me!)

Cone- Interesting...now, the big story at the moment has to be Operation Rainfall, and how Europe are getting Xenoblade mid-August, and likely the other two games (Pandora's Tower and The Last Story) some point next year, and yet, America are getting none. So what's your opinion on Operation Rainfall, as a concept, and how do you think it will pan out in the end?

Rol- They have their heart in the right spot, but they won't have any influence on Nintendo's decision. Heck, if the latest rumours are true, then Nintendo had planned to release Xenoblade and The Last Story in America all along anyway. If that's the case, it all comes down to a very simple, but very important, communication issue on Nintendo's part.

Cone- I have to agree with you there. Everyone deserves to be able to play the same games, regardless of where they are in the world.

Now, I don't mean to put you on the spot here or anything, but what's your favourite game of all time, and why?

Rol- That's hard to say, because what I answer to that question depends on my mood. It's best if I just chuck out a few names that all could be it, like Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Metroid. As for why, the quality of the games speak for themselves.

Cone- A good list there, all great games. But as we move into a new, digital world, do you reckon gaming should become digital-only, like the Apple Store?

Rol- No, because it's always better to give people a choice. Some point to digital distribution working increasingly well for music and movies, but I don't think games can go the same route, not at their current costs. You don't think much about spending $1 for a song or a few bucks to watch a movie, because even if it turns out it sucks beyond belief, it's not a big loss. But at the price games come right now youthink at the very least twice before making a purchase.

Cone- Very good point there (maybe we could turn this into a debate in the future?). Seece made a good point earlier in the thread; would you take a bullet for Nintendo?

Rol- That depends on if Nintendo would do the same thing for me. So right now, no.

Cone- I'd have to agree with you there. Mainly because Nintendo isn't a physical entity, but meh Speaking of which, who do you reckon will be on top next generation?

Rol- It won't be Nintendo. Out of the two left, I would say Sony because they are more consistent than Microsoft in their direction. In other words, many consumers will perceive Sony to be the safest bet in the foreseeable future and therefore the better investment.

Cone- Interesting how you aren't banking on Nintendo there. Could that be wise? The way the 3DS launched, maybe. Interesting point here, if you HAD to erase either Mario, Zelda or Fire Emblem, which would you?

Rol- This is one brutal question, it's like asking which limb I would remove from my body, if I had to pick one. Mario is just too important, so it's a toss up between Zelda and Fire Emblem. I'd rather cut off one of my legs and keep my two arms to play video games, you know. I would have to pick Fire Emblem, even though I currently like it more than Zelda. But Zelda simply had more impact on gaming as a whole, so erasing it from history could potentially have a domino effect that erases many other games form history as well, because they owe their existence to Zelda.

Cone- Rol! Who's that Pokemon!

Rol- This is something I had to think about for a longer time than I like to admit. The only Pokémon generation I actually played was the very first one, so everything past that I know barely anything about. It took me almost ten minutes to remember the name of the water starter Pokémon. The names of the other two (fire: Glumanda, plant: Bisasam) I remembered immediately, but Schiggy really took me a while.

Cone- Alrgiht, sorry to hear that. However, if you were allowed to ban only 1 user, any user, who would it be?

Rol- It had to be Machina, if only to let him experience the same surprise I had the "pleasure" to live through right before Christmas last year. Back then kowenicki got banned by Maxwell for two in my opinion harmless posts, one directed at me and the other one at ethomaz, so I contacted Maxwell to take that ban back. He agreed to lift the ban, if ethomaz thought the same way as I did. So I drop a post on ethomaz's wall and then go on to tell kowenicki about the good news that he might be able to return before Christmas if he "didn't act like a jerk to ethomaz in the past". Because if he did not, then ethomaz would co-operate. Machina then sees my wall post on kowen's profile, interprets it as an insult and sends me off the site. He apologized afterwards.

Cone- Is that a slip up from Machina eh? I can't blame him, it happens, after all. An interesting article occured on this site in the past few days; is Sony the next Nintendo? Expand, if possible!

Rol- No, they aren't and it's unlikely they'll ever be, because they approach game development from a different angle. Nintendo's insanely popular IPs are based on the fact that these games went out to do something that hadn't been done before (and even if, certainly nowhere near that quality level) while Sony's strategy is about tossing elements together that have proven themselves already. In other words, Nintendo defines or redefines entire genres while Sony merely attempts to refine them and thus lives off of the foundation of what others have already done. Sony's usual MO can lead to high quality games, but not breakout hits. They have one truly big franchise and that's Gran Turismo. And guess what? That actually was something new at the time of its release, because nobody had ever attempted to make a simulation on that level before (hundreds of licensed cars and real life tracks).

Cone- We know you're a big gaming fan, but what about movies? What's you favourite movie of all time then?

Rol- I am not that big of a movie fan, video games really are by far my most favorite entertainment medium. Some films that I really love and watch everytime they are on TV are the entire Back to the Future trilogy, Dodgeball: A true underdog story, Operation: Broken Arrow and Kim Possible: So the drama. The last one is actually the only DVD I ever owned.

Cone- One final question. With the EuroMillions jackpot at a ridiculous high, what would you do with all that money?

Rol- I would never have to work again. I don't think I would change my lifestyle all that much. I don't need a fancy car, a big house or a boat or something. I would just let the money work for me and enjoy a nice life without having to worry about my financial future, because even if I spent €100,000 a year, the money would still last longer than I could ever live.

Cone- That's a good point (got my ticket here ready!) For now, thanks for your time Rol, and I hoped you enjoyed being part of the first ever GamrChat interview!

This week in History

This week, 10 years ago, Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec was released. A truly classic game (and I game a played for hundreds of hours back on the PS2!), it remains my favorite entry in the series.

The Gran Turismo franchise has always been a great franchise in my opinion. With all the delays surrounding GT5 (a game many thought may never be released at a time), the series has taken a hit for me. It just didn't have the same feeling, and sadly, the sales seem ATM to be reflecting this (even if it was bigger and better...). I hope Gran Turismo 6 will return to the series roots, amazing car racing, with a focused aim.

Also, 20 years ago, Final Fantasy IV was being prepped for launch. My favourite top-down FF game.

The thread title is sensationalist and what makes it even worse is that you absolutely knew that this statement of mine was not expanded upon which makes it look like you are desperate for hits on your first show already. Additionally, you didn't use my actual quotes, instead you either reworded some parts or even added things I did not say at all.

I seriously considered hitting the report button and I rarely, if ever, do that.

"Do not disappoint me."

And you did just that.

I used your actual quotes! I only added one or two things to make it 'flow', I'll delete them if you'd rather.

:/

I enjoyed reading it, but seriously, don't be changing what people are saying or anything of that sort. That is completely and totally unacceptable, even if there are spelling/grammar errors.

I have nothing against adjustments to make it flow, but adding things like "in my eyes" makes it look like I am afraid to say what I think and that you want to protect me from the mods. Likewise, adding words like "heck" for increased effect to a particular statement is also wrong. Stop listening to darth.

That's cool. I edited the OP to remove some of that stuff. I didn't think it would make that much of a difference.

Well, it is the first thread. There were always gonna be difficulties

I have nothing to do with the content of the thread rol, apart from the banners.

The only thing I said was the thread title must be spiced up, but I NEVER said misquote

Has he tampered with the interview content itself too?

That's cool. The issue is, the thread was so delayed because we couldn't get the person we wanted to interview, to interview. We didn't want to wait another week, so I just gave Rol the questions, and he gave me the answers. No structure, no context, nothing. So with just the answers, I couldn't make it look like a show. So I added the odd word, quote etc. to hide that fact.

But that was wrong. So I've edited the new stuff out. Apologies for that.

Thank you for that.  I really did enjoy reading this interview, and am looking forward to more, as it is a unique thing that we don't generally get here on vgchartz.
