where does it state Sony is taking a loss for the PSP2 ?

if this is true, can someone reitarate something for me ? has/does every single manufactor loose money on new consoles ? and did Son loose money on the launch of the PS2 ? or is just in the new gen ps3/PSP2 (if what you guys are saying is true about them loosing money on the PSP2 that is... )

Sony lost money on PS2 , PSP and PS3. Microsoft lost money on Xbox and 360.

Selling the PSP2 at loss is hardly a news.

Lol PS3 is the only one they sold at a loss :P

Not true. They surely lost money on the PS2 hardware in the early days.

As for a winner... 3DS most likely.

I think he is talking overall (atleats that's what im talking about xD)

Yeah i know my spelling sucks but im dysgraphic so live with it :3

Not at all. All these consoles were sold at loss.

hahahahahahaha xD you do realise the ps2 was one of the most profitable consoles ever created yh? xD as for the psp i dont know if they sold at loss to start with but after a year at max they where making money on them.

The PS2 was sold at loss at lauch, like the PSP, the PS3, the Xbox and the 360.

Only Nintendo does not sell consoles at loss (except the GC)

Sony didn't start profiting from PS2 hardware until it's 3rd year on the market. They sold the system a huge loss the first two years because they didn't want to risk the Dreamcast gaining a foothold.

Overall? As in, was it beneficial for the company or not? That's an entirely diff discussion.

All im trying to say is that no company is invincible. the ps3 was supposed to be unstoppable because of how well ps1 and 2 had done. 3ds is supposed to be unstoppable because of how well DS and GB did. And yet things often dont turn out that way. Thats all im trying to say xD

Well, the standpoint "everything can happen" is good and got you covered from various angles, but 1) it's boring to discuss; 2) it's not a standpoint at all, just a confession of our inability to perceive reality in all it's complexity and make plausible predictions out of previous experience.

Lol i had a long argument with someone about how predicting this kind of stuff is pointless xD

Yh that was what i was saying to him :P if you dont include games then the ps3 is the only one that hasnt benefited sony.

I understand that having a portable PS3 sounds cool in theory, but isn't that a bit redundant? I dunno about you guys but I like my home console and handheld experiences to be different. Sure, people who are really into trophies will probably eat this up but what about the average consumer?

psp2 has a touch screen, gyro accelators(or whatever theyr called), its not a ps3. yes its going to have ps3 ports. but its not the ps3 experience going handheld, its using aspects of the ps3 to improve, and to make it more social.

The touch screen and camera are the only new features and they've both been present in many other devices so far. The gyroscope, while probably much more accurate than six axis, is still of a similar ilk to the PS3's controllers. It has potential for sure however this feels very similar to the PSP to me. Was I the only one who was half expecting Sony to actually be ballsy and try something outside the box?

what their are dual analog sticks, and the touch buttons on the back. also its going to have a cloud system and 3g(im ot sure if its pad subscription) and multiple ways to play a game(according to ign in the uncharted demo you can use butons or the touch screen an buttons). other then that its going to have trophies

and thats not ballsy?

What was the PSP's strategy? It was to reproduce home console gaming for a handheld platform. What is the NGP's strategy? It is to reproduce home console gaming for a handheld platform. I was kinda hoping Sony would put all their emphasis on the UI and form factor. Maybe I'm crazy but this whole upcoming handheld generation just feels like round 2 to me. Two stubborn japanese electronics companies sticking with the same exact strategies. One wanting the same outcome and the other wanting the opposite outcome.

NGP means Nintendo Gets Pwnd (saw that on Youtube), so it is obvious what is my choice.
