DS: Number one as usual, is 3DS really needed, looks like they could ride the DS for another 5 years.

Wii: Sales going down but still nothing to worry about, nearly 20 million in 2010.

PS3: Barely managed 3rd place, very good imporvement over 2009.

X360: Very strong holiday, extremely well in America.

PSP: Slowly dying, but definitely not in Japan, it was the number one video game system in Japan for 2010.

PS2: ...What can I say, the system in over 10 years old and sold 4.29 million, nothing short of amazing.

America took the lead for biggest region for sales again, the last couple years EMEAA was the winner in that category.

Looks like DS could still sell well this year, it will be cheaper than 3DS and could do about 17M.

Ninty should drop the price sometime soon.

360 had an awesome holiday. It almost caught up with PS3 in annual sales. Also brought the gap back up to 5 million. I think most of us thought PS3 would be closing the gap. Doesn't seem to happening yet.

As a fan of HD games, glad to see both PS3 and 360 did extremely well.

I'm surprised PS2 is still doing so well with abysmal support.

PS3 keeps second place despite everything Microsoft threw behind the 360. Got to be impressed with that.

Pretty big Wii drop again.

360 did fantastically.

PSP is apparently dead, yet still almost hit 10 Million for the Year

PS2 is god.

The crazy thing is the Xbox 360 increasing its sales from

X360 10,232,216

To

4 X360 8.69 0.21 5.38 14.28

So thats close on a 40% increase and beating the peak year in 2008 by a similar margin.

Overall the sales of the consoles this year has to make you wonder when the systems will actually hit the wall in terms of market saturation and finally show some real YOY declines. Could 2011 be that year?

Tease.

This PS3 vs Xbox 360 talk is so 2007.

Seriously, both conbsoles will sell more than 70 million and that is much more than enough to warrant 3rd party support for a VERY long time.

If you are 3rd party devloper you don't have to make a choice between PS3 vs Xbox 360. Both are more or less equally powerful so the choice basically is: Wii or PS3/Xbox 360/(PC).

The only ones who care for this are we, the fanboys. Every 3rd party developer wants to be on as many platforms as possible, except his game gets published by Sony or MS. (Epic - Gears of War / From Software - Demon Souls for example).

Every major 3rd party franchise will be multiplat anyway. Look at GTA IV as an example: 8.3 million on Xbox 360 and 7.08 million on PS3. Rockstar cannot afford to lose 50% of the sales.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

I had no idea the PS2 still sold so much. That's cool. :)

Nintendo would just be throwing money out the window by cutting price again. They did it last year and it barely increased sales at all. Might as well just ride out the inevitable decline at the current price-point to maximize revenue.

Proudest Platinums:

3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

These numbers may not be final though, we have to wait for shipment reports and adjustments.
