Do you want Sony to go bankrupt? They're probably just now almost breaking even on the PS3 Slim at $300.  At $200, the PS3 will bleed money again. The cost of the hard drive and memory isn't what is holding it back so much as the other components.

they were selling the ps3s with 200$ loss for each console and they are still fine, why people keep saying that is beyond me.

but yeah, probably a site error, they have to make some money after all, this is business.

Not quite fine, they've been losing money and laid off tens of thousands of workers.

None of which were from the SCE unit. And I think they layed off 16000 workers? If so that's not tens of thousands but Im not sure.

And hard to believe, but Sony actually fared better in the recession that some other Japanese electronics companies.

And they are fine, not perfect by a long shot, but fine.

Yes , true , not so fine , what I meant is "bankrupty" is exggerating.

and Most companies had to lay off workers and espacially the Japanese ones. Software sales were embarressing and they survived after all. with the software sales picking up , why would they go bankrupt?

they shouldn't cut the price.. unless there goal is to outsell the wii..

I mean they can barely stock up ps3's in the US as it is, and at $199 that wont solve anything.

It could be just the price of an old model or refurbished console?

That would make more sense too.

Makes more sense than all the other theories in the thread.  You get a cookie!

They will be outselling the Wii weekly at $199

But I don't think they want marketshare that badly

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

They're making money on the PS3 slim now at U$300, but yeah you're right, they'd probably take a U$90 hit if they dropped the price to U$200, taking a hit on consoles is already a bad business model as Nintendo has shown, taking a hit this big this far in the generation lifecycle is business suicide.

If so this will change things quite a bit, Fall 2009 price cut to $299 to take down the X360 and now a 2010 price cut to $199 to take down the Wii, Sony already said they only care about market share, what's another couple billion in loss, they'll make up for that next gen.

I'd love for that to be true! As long as they can keep afloat of course. I doubt it though...

Well... Could be.

Sony haven't made a real "slim" yet.

If true, wonder if we will see it outsell the Wii like it did before the Wii Pricecut.

And lol at people overreacting.

I'm sure it's site error. I mean anyone can accidently press the '1' instead of the '2' on the keyboard.

thats a good MOVE from Sony ;)
