Season's greetings! I would like to personally invite you to join this year's PC Secret Santa event, thread link below. Please drop by and help us make this holiday season a bit more merry for everyone. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Yeah, I dont post anymore here, but I log in every now and then to check the chartz and my wall. It's great to see you doing well!

We've all moved on sadly, the site it's not what it used to be back then..but at least the memories remain, haha, who can forget the 1000000th post thread? :-p

lol, that was glorious! yeah after I started my "big boy job" in 2011 I had to leave but still swing by occasionally to check on people. I mostly chat on Reddit and Facebook now and (attempt) to run a sci-fi blog.

Last string of rumors (that I strongly believe because they are in line with what I expected, "time to launch"-wise), production of HW for dev kits already started. (http://semiaccurate.com/2012/01/18/xbox-nextxbox-720-chips-in-production/)

It's most likely an APU (only one chip for CPU and the GPU) and it's being manufactured by IBM in a partnership with globalfoundries.

This (http://www.globalfoundries.com/newsroom/2012/20120109.aspx) most likely refers to this chip.

Keeping up that last row of rumors: http://semiaccurate.com/2011/12/05/exclusive-xbox-next-chip-just-taped-out/

    X720 chip name: Oban

CPU: IBM's POWER (that's what his sources say, he points out that other rumors about an AMD CPU+GPU combo are still strong and are possible http://www.hardocp.com/news/2011/07/20/next_generation_console_hardware_update)

GPU: AMD (no hint about architecture)

Chip just taped-out (they can start early production and bug testing).

Mass-production scheduled to Q4 2012 (December), that's if no problem is found, then you add roughly a quarter into that.

    At earliest, launch at Q2 2013 (April/May/June).

Developers don't know much about X720 (HUGE grain of salt on that).

With that, we can expect an announcement on 2012 E3 (WiiU launches on 2012 E3), launch ~ on 2013 E3, maybe before if WiiU sells nicely.

The time-line is credible for a 28nm GPU (They CAN do it, but I don't believe in a launch on 2012, no volume for a console).

If IBM POWER + AMD GPU, the production should be on IBM's fabs for the CPU and on TSMC for the GPU. If it's a AMD's APU (CPU+GPU), the so called "Trinity", the production will be on GlobalFoundries.

Trinity is expected to launch at earliest on Q1 2012, but I expect it, with very good will, on Q2 2012. Still, if MS chooses "Trinity", they shouldn't have problems with mass-production, since the new 28nm GlobalFoundries' fab on New York is scheduled to go fully online on Q4 2012.

And know Charlie leaks with all letters: PS4 had three designs on the run: 1 from Intel, 1 from AMD and 1 in-house (based on emotion engine). Intel was out when they didn't deliver, AMD won. I believe this is the best rumor source as you can get (and was posted today, even though he hinted waay before, letting to that hardocp article).

< sirroman posted something on spdk1's wall:

I'm trying to track the source (I read it a long time ago, and it was *probably* Charlie Demerjian from semiaccurate that said it first, but I still didn't find it) but here's the most recent source: http://hardocp.com/article/2011/07/07/e3_rumors_on_next_generation_console_hardware

By the way, the console landscape can change hugely based on what generation of AMD graphics will Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony go, if they went with the newest disclosed architecture, we can expect a revolution on GPGPU (OpenCL, maybe even FSA) on consoles (things like physics and such, the GPU helping with other calculations besides graphics), which wasn't feasible until now.
