It was. Oh well, I wasn't inspired to come up with anything lol.

#15 - Although this series has had several releases in the long time since, this game is still the last proper mainline entry.
#11 - Released on the same day as #15, and it's from the same franchise.
#10 - You could quote pretty much any line from this game and it'd be instantly recognizable.

#15 and #11: Metroid Fusion and Metroid Prime 3? Or the other way around lol. Or did you already have those.. I don't remember

#10: Are you trying to trick me or is this Star Fox 64 as well. Nah I think you're tricking me... Or is it Star Fox 64? Nah...

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

  • WiiU, Nintendo Switch
  • 2017
  • Adventure
  • Nintendo EPD / Nintendo

Link wasn't the only one who woke up. For a very long time I doubted the possibility for there to be a new game that could proudly stand among my all-time, top favorites. To stand among these top games means that it has had a significant impact on my gaming life, and in some cases even my actual life, besides being an absolutely terrific game that I would have endless fun with.

'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' is still a new game however, and that means it doesn't yet have the advantages of longevity, and personal legacy. This is just proof of the game's brilliance however, and it means that in some ways this is actually the real winner of this list. We had to wait for decades until Nintendo would find a new classic to build upon, but it has finally arrived. Where the previous games build on the legendary 'Ocarina of Time', I assume that torch has finally been passed on to this game, for future games.

'Breath of the Wild' still does look back to it's earliest predecessor however; the original 'Zelda' on the NES, and that's what keeps it familiar. The player is thrown into the world with little to go on, but soon learns the end of it all is at the castle in the centre of the land with the defeat of Ganon. And this land is vast, varied and filled with secrets to find and quests to complete. The world is alive, and the physics, the actual laws of nature they created, add to a form of realism and freedom in a game I have never seen before. Where other Zelda games' names usually reference an item or certain gameplay mechanic, the star of this game really is it's world. And as such the name is aptly chosen.

Can't believe we're in the top 10 already.

Gotta catch up!

Best campfire scene EVER @TruckOSaurus

#12
2018 has seen an abundance of great games from the sub-genre inspired by this game and, three years later, a PS1 exclusive.

#11
This sequel to #12, pre-launch, did not seem like the masterpiece it's considered today.

The top 10! I always get a bit sentimental at this point. I guess it's because of all the memories of all these great games.

#9: In the US, there was a tax proposal some years ago supposedly inspired by the ideal 9-9-9 structure in this game.

13: Chrono Trigger?

12: Super Metroid?

11: That would make this Metroid Prime, I guess.

#15 is right, #11 is... quite strangely wrong. Prime 3 was #30, by the way.

#10 shouldn't count as a guess, but whatever. It's Star Fox 64.

It's because I'm an idiot, I don't know why I wrote Prime 3 . I know it's Prime 1 that released simultaneously with Fusion.

Ah so you actually weren't tricking me? I'm so confused.

Anyway, I'm counting this as three correct guesses for me.

Right.

Anyways, I'm gonna do the extra hints already because I want to catch up as soon as possible (I'm also not leaving tonight anymore, so I guess that leaves me more time to do this).

#22 - Shortly after fighting yourself, you fight the Statue of Liberty. I'm also getting into quite the spoilery territory here... oh well.
It's a shooter game, and the spoiler stuff above is from a DLC campaign.
There was an event in this game just recently, but no one cared because they were too busy playing Smash.
It's an online focused game that's known for having consistent updates, additions and events.
The main characters are in Smash oh my god how hard can this be? It's a very popular game.

#14 - In contrast to some of this franchise's previous existentialist villains, the bad guys this time around just want everyone dead.
It's the only game in this series to boast two stages in Smash Bros.

#13 - Though this game's soundtrack is regarded by many (myself included) as one of the best ever, it still features only one song in Smash.
It's a platformer.

#12 - A game all about hats.
Though it is a pretty light-hearted and fun game, you do eventually fight a huge dragon in some dark ruins.

Is #22 Splatoon 2?
