Uh, what?! Ys on Switch sold less than 1/5th of the Vita's first week.

A insider on ResetERA that used work for NIS America has said that worldwide sales of Ys Viii have been similar to the PS4 and Vita versions.

Didn't realize we jumped from Japan to the West. Yeah, Western sales of JRPGs have been very good for NIS America. They've done a good job capturing some new fans with Disgaea 5 and Ys 8. I do wish we got actual numbers for them though..

He's probably refering to an insider's comment that Ys VIII's worldwide sales are in the same ballpark as the Vita version's worldwide sales.

A similar case is Disgaea 5 where the Switch version sold notably lower than the PS4 version in Japan, but sold similar numbers on a global basis. Disgaea 5's sales are confirmed by the publisher itself.

Ah, I did read that. That was for US sales though. Considering the thread, I thought he was referring to JP sales.

RIP Vita.

Sony should focus solely on home consoles. That's their bread and butter!

Good riddance.

Monumental failure. Horrific support and management from Sony, been stone dead in the West for years and sold 5x less than the PSP. The less time given to it by Sony and 3rd parties, the better for us all.

'BC and old retro games are stupid'. Shortly thereafter the PS1 classic is announced.

'We have no plans for a future handheld after Vita'... I wouldn't take that too seriously, no reason(s) in particular.

Controllers that rumble were stupid, too...until they weren't anymore. Basically, "It's stupid until we decide to do it."

Back on subject, it's a shame the Vita didn't reach the level of success that the PSP did. It really was cutting edge and even now it impresses next to the Switch. I figured it was another Sony "10 year plan" device. I guess it goes to show that companies don't decide how long their product will stay on the market. Consumers do.

Copy/pasting the comment I just made in the news section, because lazy.

It was my favorite platform for a while, until memory card failure, and all the fun of troubleshooting, re-downloading, and buying very expensive replacements became routine over a maddening 2 1/2 year period. Just part of owning a Vita. For some people anyway. At any rate, I still love the thing. Have 2 oleds in use and an LCD still new in the box. Have spent more time with it than any other platform over the past 5 years, partially due to circumstance, but mostly because I enjoyed it.

I figured it would've happened a lot sooner than this.

I still believe Vita was killed by Sony. Sony wanted people to look at Sony Mobiles products, and forced Sony Computer Entertainment to do things that would take it out of competition with the Xperia line. AT&T said Vita would get really amazing once 4G hit, but Sony killed the 3G model in the 1st year, and never even made the 4G model.

If Sony kills Xperia instead, and focuses on a 4G Vita, with Calling/Texting, and Available on contract, things would have been very very different. As Vita grew PlayStation Mobile would have gaind attention from major app developers, and it would have been a Handheld/Phone that could have competed for a small share of the market the Android and iOS completely took over.

Sony would have saved about $5 Billion in losses over the last 7 years, and have a viable Mobile business. The Vita/Xperia snafu is multiple times worse than the PS3 blunder. It cost them billions more and it still hasn't turned around.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I mostly agree. I think SNY and/or PS are up to something. They mention they can't turn a blind eye to Switch, they mention maybe working on a mobile game plan going forward. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a similar situation to Nin before Switch. Dropping the Wii brand, and completely separate hardware, and focusing on one sector, handhelds, even though their new device could cover home console still in a way. Whether SNY ties mobile and PS together to some degree, or a mobile handheld of sorts, I don't know exactly, but there is no doubt potential there, if they want to do it. They learned from PS3 and ended up with PS4, so if they learn from Vita, who knows.

They also may have flat out killed handheld so there was only strong focus on SNY mobile and PSVR, which makes a lot of sense right now to strengthen those two divisions. If they can build both up, you could potentially have a future where mobile and VR come together, but that's probably down the line a bit, if they can get there.

We are at best a couple of years from the end of dedicated handheld consoles.....

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
