Forums - Sales Discussion - Let's show the world their is a market for mature games on the Wii!!!

Are we talking about actually-mature games, or M-for-mature games? Games which display real maturity exist in abundance on the Wii. M-for-mature games, not so much, but the sooner that fad dies out the better. M-for-mature gives gaming a bad name.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Truth be told? I don't give a rats ass if a game is mature or not. I only care if it's good. Whether it's rated E or M, I won't give it a second glance if I don't think it looks fun.

In my opinion any mature gamer has a 360 or Playstation.

I mean 'cmon, mario? Thats a kids thing all the way. So Wii is for kids and casuals or just for people who like simple games. I dont expect mature to do very well on the Wii ever.

But thats just me.

You won't last very long here with that attitude.

The Wii isn't my thing, but Nintendo's been making consoles 11 years longer than Sony, and 18 years longer than Microsoft. Many people who own the Wii are Nintendo fans who've been playing Nintendo games for 25 years.

Mario isn't kiddy. To begin with, Super Mario Bros. is one of the hardest games I have ever played. And it was one of the most advanced games of its time.

There isn't much of a market for M-rated games on Wii, judging by sales of M-rated games compared to the HD consoles, but the market's there, and if a developer makes a good M-rated game, which will appeal to people, people will buy it. The trouble is that they want to make that game on the HD consoles, because it will sell a hell of a lot more (and by this stage, it would), and then do a shoddy port to Wii which nobody likes. Most Wii third-party exclusives try to be innovative and different (not to say they're always good) and lower development costs mean less risk, but there's still no huge market for them.

So basically, if you want to convince publishers that there's a market for M-rated consoles on Wii, there's only one way to vote: with your $50/£30 or however many Euros.

EDIT: You know you've failed when I'm defending the Wii

I love this post. I already liked you lots Kantor, now I like you even more. Feel the love, babe <3

I wonder if there will ever be a mature game that has a scenario like this

" You are a father of a family of 5, have always tried your hardest to raise your kids to be good people and love your wife very much. She dies in a tragic car accident bringing chaos on to your family. Devastated after your loss you turn to alcohol, eventually lose your job and your children abandon you/have been taken away by the authorities. Game objective: Get your life back"

I honestly wish there actually was something like this.

If i lose access to this profile as well....I'm done with this site.....You've been warned!!.....whoever you are...

Happy Wii60 user. Me and my family are a perfect example of where hardcore meets casual and together mutate into something awesome.

I plan on getting silent hill and i already have bully, manhunt 2 and madworld. I will buy mature games on Wii if they appeal to me and look as if actual effort has been put into them.

Some games really use it to their advantage, like God of War. If all the blood turned to fairy dust, the atmosphere of the game would be ruined.

Some games, like 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, are just a mockery of everything an M-rated game is meant to be.

Though ESRB gets a little ridiculous and throws Ms at everything. Most 15s in the UK are M in NA.

Yes thank-you!!!  There are a lot of mature gamers on Wii.  And by mature, I'm talking lapsed gamers, PC gamers, people in their 30's and 40's (and even 50, 60's, and up), who don't have time or inclination to play single player, violent 'M' for Mature games (often because the Wii's in the living room and you can't play Madworld, NMH, HoTD:O or others in the living room when you have wives and kids).

'M' for Mature games are often not mature games at all.   They cater to the teenaged male who isn't even old enough to buy them (yet miraculously own tons).   Heck, yesterday I was at the video store and some guy was renting Halo 3 for his 4 year old.  Serious (actually he was going to rent him Halo Wars but I pointed out that wasn't a shooter).   I do not consider those mature games.

A game with mature content, like yanamaster suggests, would be most welcome.  I don't care if it's a point and click adventure, action adventure, RPG or whatnot, as long as the story content is something deep, engaging, actually relatable too and emotionally satisfying. This would also appeal to women, who happen to make up half of the Wii's userbase.   Something the gaming industry seems to forget with alarming regularity.

I am a teacher and father of a 5 year old son. We play Mario together and it's fun. He will never even see the casing of my M rated games. I only play at night, when he is asleep. As a teacher, I try to tell my students (12 year olds) of the fact that it's wrong to play those M rated games because of the violence and the fact that their is no way they can understand it all. I am not a violent guy, I don't think Shattered Memories or Cursed Mountain is violent. It's unsettling. I think you have to be mature enough to play games like Resident Evil. When my son is old enough, he can make is own decisions, for now, it's Mario Time baby.

And for mature gaming, I am anxious to see what Heavy Rain will bring to the video game industry.

I don't think age has anything to do with it. I've seen 30 year olds who aren't mentally stable enough to play a violent game, and then ten year olds who are. That's why I think the whole age rating system is flawed.

I don't like it when Rol isn't rol-ing us. It confuses me.
