Yeah my friends were all giving this game rave reviews and I tried to play on despite being bored, hoping to find something I like abt the game but I gave up and sold the game after fighting Poison Ivy.

I loved the voice recordings of the patients but hated having to locate them.

The game just doesnt draw me in like Uncharted 2 did.

If theres an Over-rated game for 2009 i'd give it to Batman AA

I think all this really proves is that you can't please everyone with a game.

You could probably list flaws for every one of 2009's critically acclaimed games, but they're all still great games. I've only played Arkham Asylum a bit (I need to get through my queue of games), but I thought it was fantastic. It emulates perfectly what being Batman is all about. There's so much enjoyment in scaring goons in different ways, raising their heart rates to the highest possible levels, and then ultimately kicking their asses in a variety of ways. And complaints about this game are actually a good thing. The more complaining there is, the more things will be fixed and polished for the inevitable sequel (a la Assassin's Creed 1 to AC2).

to me personally, it has the best combat engine/system (or whatever you call it) of any game in the history of games. It just works so easy and it looks so f***ing beautiful.
it's like you'r actually playing through a cut-scene that's how amazing the combat is.

Also the metroid style gameplay is just another fantastic thing about this game.

this is a game, that similar to viewtiful joe, i'll come back every so often because of the satisfying fighting mechanics.

To be honest, I played it for like another HOUR, and it's already better. I really hate it when the beginning of a good game sucks. LBP comes to mind.

I wouldn't say it's bad, just average.

The epic Batman combat involves mashing square. And sometimes pressing triangle, but that's optional.

The epic Batman stealth involves swinging between gargoyles and kicking people, then being shot and swinging between gargoyles again.

The so-called riddles for the world's greatest detectives aren't riddles, they're painstaking searches of large rooms in order to find miniscule details and scan them. The first one was a riddle of sorts, but it was painstakingly obvious what he was referring to, and extremely annoying when he made it yet more obvious when clearly you're just looking for a portrait of Warden Sharp.

And these riddles seriously mess up the flow of the game. I can't possibly ignore all of these riddles and collectibles and recordings and just continue with the main mission, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. So I end up searching every nook and cranny of a large area for anything that could possibly fit the riddle, and scanning them all. And I still can't find it, and only then do I give up.

Is there something I'm missing here, something which turns this from a generic superhero brawler with some poorly designed riddles, into this GoTY-worthy masterpiece that everyone else seems to see? Does it get better later on? Because I liked the demo, thinking "Hmm, this will just be a small portion of what's in the game". But after a good few hours of play, that's all that is in the game.

You can be cynical like that with about any game ,look let me try.....

All you do in every racing game is hold acceleration, steer, and occasionally brake at some corners but thats optional.

All you do in every shooter is just aim , move and shoot.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

Now this is important: is it better because of something intrinsic to the game, or is it better because of how you approached a situation?

To be clear, Arkham Asylum is miles better than the original Assassin's Creed.

The former, which led to the latter. The combat stops tolerating "MASH SQUARE!!!!!!!111one", you actually have to use stealth. My only problem with this is the relative lack of stealth options early in the game. All you can really do are sneak attacks, glide kicks and that thing where you hang the guy from a gargoyle (I love doing that). And then there was Scarecrow, and Bane...
