I just got through reading this article. My favorite piece: (This is very much a 'Sony game'). Not only do I agree that it is, but I'm glad they mention that. Give better insight into Sony's tastes when it comes to sales. They prefer these artsy, story-driven games that don't do 10-20 million in sales, not even 5. They just prefer the top-notch quality, which as a gamer is most important.

That's great for the consumer, I agree with that. But unless people start buying these sorts of games then publishers will stop backing these games.

This game looks awesome I just don't see it doing the sales necessary to get either a sequel or similar games coming out.

Sometimes though you get a a company like Sony that is more worried about having a "technical masterpeice" if you will, instead of having only titles that appeal to the masses.

Sony seems to have a hard on for releasing a few games like this per gen. I think The Last Guardian will be the next title to go through years and years of development only to show off great technical feats and probably not turn a significant profit, if at all.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Thats like totally not true. You're just spinning the fact that they haven't had a few massive sellers by saying 'oh they wanted it that way'. If they had released 2-3 5M + sellers you'd be singing another completely different tune 'gamers just respond well to quality Sony first party titles' or something like that. If SCE could make a game equivalent series of Spiderman they would!

It isn't? You can prove that it isn't, even when the article itself hints at it? Sony has a track record for these types of games, that's just the way it is. Who did I insult in there? Where in there do I say that they don't want high sales? Frankly, Sony's games have never done huge numbers, and haven't had to. People enjoy their games, and that's what matters most. Shame you can't see that.

And, I said the games they prefer don't sell those huge numbers, no "spin" applied.

Your answer is dictated by the most positive way to present Sony on these forums. They have tried and failed thus far to get genuine 5M+ selling franchises out. Had they done so your answer would be different because you'd change your tune to whatever is happening at the time.

Where did you say they didn't want high sales? No you didn't say that, you said "They prefer these artsy, story-driven games that don't do 10-20 million in sales, not even 5. They just prefer the top-notch quality, which as a gamer is most important." Which is like 100% BS. They are a business and they thought that pleasing the hardcore audience would work to sell the system. Since that hasn't they have changed tunes and you'll see them release many more casual type titles such as Mod-nations racers, wait for E3 and you'll see. As a business quality is subjective and means jack all, if they do well its reflected on the bottom line. A quality title for them is one which moves units and they don't care how it does it.

If the games don't sell huge numbers especially given the development + advertising budgets are moving past $40M for their titles and they are deliberately releasing more niche titles then they are fools who deserve to go out of business. However they are not fools they are simply making bets on a wide variety of releases in the hopes that one or two stick.

I hope you don't mean "stick" as in being the start of a franchise. Quantic Dream clearly stated that Heavy Rain starts and end with this title.

Some might think of that as a dumb move, but as a gamer I just love that I keep getting all kinds of games.

No, you're not a gamer. You're a niche gamer and you speak for a very tiny market. A gamer is regular joe that has a collection of games taken straight of a greatest hits catalogue.

And that's more along the lines of what I was getting at.

I like that Sony is willing to take a risk on games like this; all I know is that if I ran Sony I would forget about this game and tell them to hurry up on GT5, Resistance 3, Killzone 3 and LittleBigPlanet 2.

It's already been explained what I meant. At this point, you're just looking to perpetuate a non-issue.

Do not try contradicting his opinion with facts ! You might derail the thread !

Why is it "Let's derail a thread!" day today?

so that everyone can get the "Official Xbox Magazine Reviews FF13" thread to the bottom of the pile so that No-ONE SEES POSITIVE FF13 REVIEWS!

Its a conspiracy I tell you!

EDIT:

I've cracked the puzzle!!

Ghost4life is doing this on purpose as he hates FFXIII & he even hired Saicho wth the power of VG$

Hey Gh0st4lifE, I'm currently writing a thesis on how to be a troll and derail a Sony thread. As of now, the workload is looking like a 10 hour endeavor. But with your help, I approximate that time will be cut down to only 5 minutes!!! Hell, just looking at your 'work' in this thread has given me some great ideas.

OT: Heavy Rain is looking very intriguing. Judging from the 9/10 review, it seems that QD really did pull of what they set out to accomplish. And in regards to Sony, they continue be the only one's out of the big three to invest in highly innovative and unique software.

From Flower to the Pixeljunk series to now Heavy Rain, the masterpieces just keep on coming.

Do you really want me to answer you ?

I'm not a gamer because I don't only play the games that everyone else does?

Hold on a moment while I laugh.

No, I want you to stop trolling.

So, Tim, tell us about your review, why does Heavy Rain deserve a 9/10?

"Well, primarily I scored it high because I think it's really good. More specifically it's a tremendously exciting experience and exactly the kind of thing people who moan about there being too many shooters and sequels have been crying out for.

"It's also an amazing piece of technical craft. Visually it's right up there with Uncharted 2, and the stuff they do with the control system is incredibly bold. Far from being just a series of linked QTEs, it constantly toys with what you expect from it, regularly introducing new twists on the core mechanic, and is just incredibly exciting to play through. Can you tell I liked it?"

Eh, so I see that and I don't see making QTE's more interesting, I see them making QTE's more annoying.

I'm perfectly cool with the story and the pacing they talk about and that what has me interested, it's the QTE's that are likely going to keep me from getting that game.
