Ubisoft has made some very good games that sell well on the PS3/Xbox 360. Unfortunately, it has not brought many of these games to the Wii. Instead, it has brought a collection of less than stellar titles that are based upon other titles or lack the effort of other titles. Then it complains that these knock-offs or low-quality efforts do not sell as well as expected.
For example, there was almost market for a SSBB-like game, but Ubisoft spent millions on it anyway. That is what the third-parties do not understand about the Wii. The look-alike games do not sell as well as they have traditionally sold. Other games were niche and thus should not be expected to sell well, regardless of system.
The DS problem is one of oversaturation. In other words, how many times can you buy your daughter an Imagine game for ther DS (or Wii)?

Not now, the $60 million is Ubisoft's expectation for the next generation (the one which hasn't started yet). In the current generation, most publishers cite an average budget of $20 million for PS3/360 games, which yes, is around 2-4 times more than in the last gen. Obviously I think they're crazy if they think they can get the revenue to justify these development costs. Even if the retailer middlemen were completely eliminated through digital distribution, that would still not allow them to triple the development budgets.

Absolutely, its not like the cost to program has gotten more expensive. The only thing that goes up is work hours in polishing higher poly models. Its always hard to picture the future, but I really don't see how or why graphics need to improve further to increase development costs.

One thing I'm wondering is that if Ubisoft is shifting its focus to HD consoles now, when can we expect the new games to be released? If it's within this year, can we really expect them to good quality titles?
It usually takes about two years to make a good game on HD consoles which means if they just shift the focus now, those games probably would not be released until the end of 2011. And if Ubisoft is able to get any new games out before that and the game turns out to be good, I would be very impressed and they would be one of the most efficient HD developers.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
The only time Wii will be in trouble is if Nintendo leaves the Wii haha. And that's not happening. I mean they're not single-handedly supporting Wii but, let's be serious. They can do it all by themselves.
Strangely enough, the only Wii games I purchased that were developed by Ubisoft are titles from the Raving Rabbids series and the Red Steel series, which were series that were started with the Wii's release in 2006.
Since the launch, I've purchased Rabbids Go Home. The first game was funny and unique, and I've been a fan of the characters ever sense. I'll also be purchasing Red Steel 2, as I enjoyed the first one (despite its many flaws) and can't wait to see what they've been doing with WM+.
That's it. I've never bothered to purchase any other title developed by them. I really enjoyed their enthusiasm with the Wii as the console was in its infancy. Games like Red Steel and RRR were treated as flagship Nintendo Wii titles... and they sold like 'em too. I just wish that they would regain that enthusiasm for Wii, I saw a spark of it with Red Steel 2... but other than that... well. I just haven't seen it.

"The true of the matter is this, the Wii is a very different console than what most games developers are used to. The Wii has managed to make a huge success from having games on it that just would not work on a conventional console. The Wii has also managed to increase the market share to a huge group of people that are not that interested in gaming. With Wii Sports, Wii Fit and all manner of games built for family play, Nintendo know who they are marketing for and it is not die hard gamers. If you look at the most successful Wii games, they are not amazing new AAA games, they are predominantly family orientated games/alternative games.
Looking at the current UK games sales for Wii Wii Sales Link, there are not that many traditional games in the top 30. Trends are changing and not everyone wants a new action game, FPS game or epic RPG, sales of the Wii proves that the majority want something different.
Parents who are buying a console for their children do not really care about Prince of Persia, Rainbow Six or Far Cry on the box, they want games that are going to be good for their children and not get them in the local newspaper. Why else would games like Brain Training/Wii Fit/Mario Party sell in the millions if people wanted hardcore games?
Check the Nintendo DS figures in the UK as well. DS Sales Link. Notice whose name is listed there a few times but also notice which games are listed? We make games that will 'hopefully' sell to a selected audience. We are a business after all, but Nintendo know which people are their market, just as Sony and Microsoft know who their markets are. Ubisoft have always been aimed at the more mature market (Look at our back catalogue) and in the last few years have started venturing into the casual gaming market. This is because that market now exists, thanks to the rise in popularity of the Wii and DS. The Wii is still a new console and it still has plenty of time to grow, Nintendo know this and Ubisoft know this.
As for Shaun Whites on the Wii, can you at least wait to get some more information and gameplay on it before binning it? Most people have seen a few screenshots and they already hate it because it does not look as good as the 360 etc but to damn a game just because of looks, and without actually playing it is just silly. All I have seen is various forums doing childish Photoshop screens, at least wait to see the game face to face before turning it into a humorous gif."
Maybe we are all being unfair to Ubisoft. They know what their market are and it is working really well.

After Red Steel 2, Ubi can pack their things and leave Wii along with their imagine series.

I hope that is sarcasm. If not then we are not being unfair to Ubisoft. They do not know their market. Red Steel sold over a million units but they did not develop another quality core game for the Wii. Instead they went for some imaginary audience to sell thier Imagine series of games to. Instead of diversifying their portfolio of DS and Wii games with a mixture of Casual and Core games like any developer should, they decided to just pursue one audience. This step had nothing but failure written all over it. Non of their games for that audience had depth that would allow everyone to play them. Instead they were shallow games that had limited value. But their greed did not let them see their mistake. They were too busy bragging about how they were growing their business and the new IPs that they created. Now that their house of cards has fallen their answer is to retreat.
What we've seen from Ubisoft, EA, and Capcom, to a certain extent, is how not to run a business.
If Nintendo is successful at the moment, it’s because they are good, and I cannot blame them for that. What we should do is try to be just as good.----Laurent Benadiba
I'm really mixed. On one hand Ubi has published some real trash on the other hand I'm having GC 2004 flashbacks where 3rd parties ran for the hills leaving my favorite purple lunchbox as a Nintendo machine only.
On on hand a few HD flops can kill you, and dev costs are insane. On the other hand a decent number of great Wii games go off and die. Between half-witted developers, and a fickle Wii base, I'm losing my faith in console gaming in general.
Those who are predicting another 80's style crash are right on. Everybody is losing money, and they clearly have no clue how to turn that around. Sometimes a fresh start is the best way to repair a critically broken industry. If I were a shareholder in anybody but Activision or Nintendo I would be looking for somebodies head after the epic fail they have achieved this gen.
