Maybe developing games on PS3 is more expensive than other console.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai
It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps
We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
@shams, this appears to be world wide, and only for the quarter, my bad i should have posted both of those up top,
@shina, thanks for the other info, could you get us a link im very interested in 6 month sales (I still havent found that) and its cut off in your post
@koffieboon, bbest i can guess is maybe it should be looked at as we over traked ps3 games for the period,
@everyone, Im guessing why profits were not listed by console was restructuring and reorg, it is very hard to dilute costs like that to one or two particular areas of products when it generaly has major effects in most sections of the company
also if you go back and read some of the links to earlier parts of EAs statment it has:
"According to the firm, sales were driven by Madden NFL 08, FIFA 08, NCAA Football 08, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08 and MySims, each selling over one million copies. Specifically, Madden NFL 08 sold 4.5 million copies and was EA’s best performing title in the quarter; FIFA 08 sold 2.9 million copies internationally – with sell through at retail up double digits year-over-year;MySims, a new owned intellectual property, sold over one million copies on the Nintendo DS and Wii."
the most interesting part is if the mean sold to consumers by "through at retail" which would give ioi more info right from the pubisher

| koffieboon said: There must be some mistake in those numbers, because the PS3 numbers just can't be right. Madden alone sold 336k units on PS3 in august according to NPD and NCAA Football 08 PS3 sold 156k units in july. Those numbers are part of the 3 months ending on september 2007 and added together account for around 500k units sold. And that doesn't include sales on any other title or of sales of the mentioned titles in the next months. Multiplying the 500k units by their full retail price would put it at 30M revenue already. So maybe Gamasutra or EA made some mistake, but 17M revenue for PS3 titles just can't be correct. |
Uh. That would be great... if you wanted to calculate retailer revenue. EA doesn't sell Madden at full retail price, they sell it to the stores who then sell it for retail price. (if they can get that much.) Therefore their revenue will be lower then full retail price.
Duh.

And of course with a little simple math (6 months - 3 months) you could figure out the sales for each console for the previou 3 month period.

Wow , the PSP actually holds 6% of total publishing net revenues ... more than the PS3 and Wii :o
Vote the Mayor for Mayor!
@koffieboon
EA doesn't get revenue for the full retail price. Part goes to the store selling the game (bestbuy, gamestop, ect), part goes to Sony, and part goes to the publisher. I remember reading elsewhere that on a ps3 game about $27 dollars goes to the publisher. Xbox is about the same, and Wii is slightly less since they only charge $50 for games instead of $60.
I think part of the reason the PS3 numbers may be so low (aside from the PS3 installed base in North America) is that I remember reading someplace that third parties pay more to publish PS3 games (licensing fees, blu-ray discs). The first part may have changed with the PS3's fortunes but the cost of Blu-Ray media is still obviously more expensive than single and dual layer dvd media.

Yeah but because of Bluray, Madden PS3 can have the football field be 400 yards long.

That is true, I made a stupid mistake there. But even then the number seems very low. I mean, on average 360 titles seem to outsell their PS3 counterparts at around 3 to 1, so seeing the difference in revenue almost 13 to 1 just seems very strange.
