2D Mario... Little Big Planet Sonic & Knuckles. Sega does what Nintendon't!

3D Mario... Nothing yet. And looking at current 3D Sonic titles, there never will be.

There Carl, I helped you out with the greatest 2D Platformer ever.

Sonic and Knucled on it's own won't beat any Mario game. I mean a smurf zone for first level? What was wrong with green hills and geometric shapes?

You should have said Sonic 3 & Knuckles or Sonic CD, then we can talk about games that have the potential to rival Mario.

I LOVE ICELAND!

They'rre not trying to kill Mario because they know they can't. Ever. In sales or quality.

Nothing will ever kill Mario in sales.

Quality, well... That's another thing.

What are you implying..

That nothing will beat Mario in sales, but Mario has been and can be beaten in quality...

Sure.. Examples.

They'd definitely help your argument.

2D Mario... Little Big Planet.

3D Mario... Nothing yet.

So you; Carl2291, being of sound mind and body, are willing to argue that LittleBigPlanet is better than every Super Mario Platformer ever made?

Of course not. I was talking about this gen, not past gen's.

Are you saying that New Super Mario Bros. and New Super Mario Bros. Wii are inferior to LittleBigPlanet?

Yes. For a few reasons, which in a way... Are linked.

1. Better multiplayer.
2. Level creation.
3. Play/Create/Share.
4. Level variety.

Gameplay, i would say NSMB has the slight edge. But overall quality of the game itself... I would give that to LBP rather easily.

Ok, I guess NSMB is the better platformer as a level creator, multiplayer, and play/create/share are not prerequisites for being a platformer.

Level Variety may help its case but NSMBWii and NSMB has plenty of that too.

In short, be more descriptive.

Platforming quality alone doesn't mean it is a better game. If it was down to platforming quality alone, then i would rate 'Splosion man as a better game than NSMB.

I gave reasons why i think LBP is a better game than NSMBW... I don't need to expand on those reasons, they are there and plane to see. I think LBP has better multiplayer, and a whole lot more features along with so much more level variety.

First of all, reported for flaming Smurfs. What have they ever done to you?

Second of all, Mushroom Hill Zone was awesome. But I will admit that as far as first levels go, Angel Island and Emerald Hill Zone were pretty darn awesome(r).

But I don't need Sonic 3 or Sonic CD to help me out. I already have Sky Sanctuary Zone, the greatest stage in Sonic (and gaming) history.

The funny thing is, people think MS / Sony can come up with a "Wii Sports" killer.

Why should I believe they're capable of such a feat, when they can't even put down 2D Mario, a game requiring only 2 buttons and a D-pad?

People don't play technology, they play games!

You think Mario is easy to kill?

Killing Mario is like trying to kill Halo or Gran Turismo off.  Flagship franchises die generally based on self-inflicted damage.  Nothing else will generally kill them off.  LittleBigPlanet tries, but it isn't the same.  It is its own thing, and a cool game, but doesn't kill Mario off at all.

nothing could kill mario, which is sad imo...lbp/modnation racers deserves to imo, but it will never happen, mario was great in the day...but he isnt utilized right imo

Agree. Mario (and Zelda) has been overrated today. It is the same thing over and over again and I have always said SMB3 is the best in series. It is the name that sells not the quality. Sure NSMBW had the multiplayer going (god how long did we wait for that on a 2D Mario, over 20 years?) but really offered nothing new when compared to SMB3. LBP has sackboy which is really lovable and the customization left and right to the point that you can create almost entirely new games and mimic others (MGS) adds sooooo much replayability. Of course any Wii fan will attack anything that is not Mario. Hats off to Mario 64 and SMG for trying something different. I feel that I grew out of the Mario phase during the SNES era while many people are either still stuck in that phase or are still young and in the phase.

Other games could have shined had it not been for the blind following Mario carries, for example Kid Chameleon. I mean the vast amount and variety of helmets almost completely changed gameplay (had a pretty decent story for a platformer too). Then you have other gems like Bonk, which unfortunately was in the dying Turbo Graphix 16. Hell even Blue's Journey had more depth (although I consider it a Mario ripoff that did it better though) with certain RPG'ish elements from a more expensive system, the Neo Geo.

Ratchet and Clank can be considered a platformer but with lots of shooting elements and some RPG'ish elements which I consider a superior game in just about all aspects, down to the tight controls and vast storyline (yes fun gameplay). But anyways to each his own. Once people wake up and branch out to other games of the genre they will realize there are amazing gems to be had (I doubt most will now that Wii is on top), so to an extent I feel that it just kills gaming. It's as if we were still playing Pac-Man with some better graphics (I know, not a platformer but for sake of time comparison).
