Slowdown! Final Fantasy 9 was good for what it was! People expect all Final Fantasy's to be AMAZING! Final Fantasy 9 was still a good game, I don't like how a brand name can really effect peoples views on a game.

IX was the best of the post-2D Final Fantasies, with XII being the second best.
FF gamers these days just want a cool main character with a badass weapon so they can kick vicarious ass. Throw in a mediocre plot with a few cliche-ridden villains/supporting characters, gloss it all over with pretty graphics, and you've got a smash hit new Final Fantasy.

FF XIII looks to be the worst offender on all of these accounts so far. I've had very little hype from the day it was announced that the main character was named "Lightning"--that naming choice alone speaks volumes about the mindset behind the game.

Final Fantasy 9 is also my Favorite for the PSOne.

Just because YOU don't know this, doesn't mean it's a site craving attention. Gamekult has ALWAYS been incredibly strict. They don't release reviews when games come out, they release them when they've played the game thoroughly. You may not agree with their pov, but it's not a playboy or maxim-wannabe review. This site is legit and strict, that's all there is to it (unlike IGN's "Here, another game with 95/100 because we get the review early"-attitude). Whether the score is acceptable or not for FF XIII, I don't know, since I haven't played the game, but gamekult shouldn't be dismissed merely because you don't know it. It's a respectable gaming site.

Since I speak french and know a lot about gamkult.com I just wanted you guys to know that it is a website that grades VERY VERY hardly. It is extremely diffucult for a game to get even an 8 by gamekult so a 7 is stll a very good game. Just to let you know they gave an 8 ( not even 9) to games like god of war, mordern warfare MGS4 etc etc. They gave a 7 to halo 3 and infamous.
So if they go out and give a 7 to ff13:

1) They might be a case aside that does not like the game/series as much as every one else.
2) A 7 by them is still a 9 or over for most known american website reviews.
ex:

- Halo 3 gets 7 by gamekult but 9.5 by ign.com and  gamespot.com  and a 9.8 by gametrailers.com and it gets a metacritic of 94/100
- Other example, metal gear solid 4 gets 8 by gamekult   but  gets a 10 by ign.com  and  gamespot.com and a metacritic of 94 as well.
