Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

^- Well if they said that then there obivously wrong since PS2 did more for gaming then 360 or anything this gen did at all.

wait a min... i just noticed... Decade? meaning 10 years? meaning PS2 aswell? (Lol just noticed.) son of a...

Okay now i strongly disagree, please disregard my original post, the 360 did alot for gaming but not nearly as much as PS2 did.

Ok what exactly did the PS2 do for gaming that wasn't done by the PS1 or other earlier systems?  What was its lasting influence on this decade?  The 360 brought achievements, DLC, downloadable demos, trailers, multiple SKUs targetting different audiences, gamertags, movies, xbox live arcade, cross-game chat, community created games, friends lists, dashboard themes, online matchmaking, and dozens of other things to consoles.

It even heavily influenced PC gaming by creating a much greater bond between consoles and PC which has changed the way most major multi-platform games are made.   Before the Xbox 360 most multi-platform games were either started on PC and much later ported to consoles or vice-versa, now they're made simultaneously.  It also caused many formerly PC game engines to have console support as standard when new versions are released.

I could also go on about how it even changed the way games are released.  What was once a relatively long wait for games to be released in different regions now typically has releases with much closer release dates thanks to the massive Worldwide launches that were started on the 360.

The community aspects of the system alone has changed gaming for many millions of people.  Sure the Wii brought people in groups together (something which was previously seen on consoles with games like Mario Kart but not to the extent of Wii Sports of course), but the 360 brought online multiplayer games out of the realm of PC gaming and into the console masses like no console before it.  Does anyone expect to pick up a racer now for example and expect no online multiplayer?

As for the Wii the motion controller is highly influential but to date relatively few games actually use it to its potential and it hasn't really influenced anything outside of the Wii (of course the PS3 and 360 motion offerings will be coming out next year or later but we're talking about this decade).  Can you think of any influence for example that the Wii has had on PC gaming?  Its aiming at casual gamers and the success it has had with many demographics is amazing so it probably also deserves a place on the list, but it's very arguable that the 360 has had even more influence on gaming.

We can even see it in the rise of FPS games as the now dominant genre in Western gaming, directly influenced by the 360's online and its audiences' voracious apetitite for such games.  Anyways hopefully this answers any questions as to why the system is on that list and deservedly so.

lol thats stupid

they think 360 was better than the PS2

Most of you guys missed the point . While the PS2 was the greatest console in terms with their gaming library size, it didn't push any new standards or redefine gaming. The PS2 just went with same routine of updating their hardware (went from 32bit to 128bit) for another generation. 360 pushed features such as achievements, online gaming, and HD gaming as a standard in homes everywhere.

Without 360 there would be no PSN or Trophies.

those thigns were on orig. xbox, and on steam before that... and so on other services.

and sony ps3 on 2005 had the features the only thing xbox had it was a more established online, which was a copy paste of steam.

PC is not a console. and this was about consoles, if youd like to see their pc selection, i believe one of them was a mac laptop.

off topic and opinion of mine below

I do tend to enjoy the lowered prevelense on moders who cheat on the game in live.

and its beome over the years fps better on console then pc

however the PC still holds my heart for real time strategy, and turn based strategy and all variations there in... i need the keyboards infinitely combinable keyboard for that

If you like videogames, you are crazy to pick the XBox 360 as the definitive console of the decade ahead of PS2.  Yes the 360 is a good console, but is going to end up in second or third place by the time the generation ends. The PS2 on the other hand actually dominated nearlly the whole decade, and helped the parent company go under.  It is the essense of gaming this decade.

Yes because a PC is really a console isn't it, and besides, 95% of my online gaming is done on my consoles not my pc, I don't game on my pc much anymore and hardly ever online as I much prefer playing online via my 360 or ps3 (my own view).

You make me laugh libellule, if something isn't favoring the ps3 you always try and put a downer on it, a simple "well done" would have been nice but then again, that's too much to expect from you I guess....

The 360 has done tons more for gaming than the ps2 ever did, the only things the ps2 did was bring a dvd player to a gaming console and also had a huge selection of games, it didn't do anything to "define" gaming,

The 360 bought online console gaming into the mainstream for the first time (xbox was testing the waters, the 360 made it mainstream), friends lists, voice chat, video chat, party chat, game invites, cross game chat, a superb online community (only possible on pc before), game downloads, game addons, themes, arcade games, indie games, complete dash updates never done before, achivements, rep system, match making, the biggest console online community with the most paying customers, then you got movie rentals, netflix, sky player, facebook, twitter, lastfm apps, the new 1080P instant streaming,

Then you got the hardware, 720P/1080P HD gaming in your living room (a first for a gaming console), wireless controls as standard, hard drive addons, different sku's, then you have the upcoming natal which once again will help shape the future of gaming for the next generation.

And you seriously think the PS2 did more or had a bigger impact lmao, most of the features the 360 bought to the table is now standard in console gaming, e.g, online play, achivements/trophies, game patches, dash updates, game downloads, arcade games, custom music, wireless controls as standard etc, this is now the standard in console gaming and was made possible by the 360 (and the original xbox to a certain degree)
